I was pretty disappointed in the taste of their pastries and bread here :(Considering the price(it was pretty expensive) I was hoping for a lot more! Their baguette was very hard but the taste was okay. I also had their seasonal pastries which were okay but a bit too stuffy with a bland taste. Of the items I had, I would have to say their croissant pretzel was the best. It was just the right amount of softness and crispness which pretty much made the three star rating instead of two. The location is decent and inside is very nice so I think it would be much better to eat inside versus taking it home like I did. Considering how famous it is… I was expecting a lot more :(

The Flan(egg custard type dish) and the Chocolate plié(sp) were awesome. I probably had the Flan everyday for lunch for a week. At least from these two desserts, the place was awesome. Can’t speak to any of the breads or actual food, but from what I had, it was awesome.

I honestly have to say that Maison Kayser serves some of the most underwhelming pastries that I’ve ever had! Their croissants aren’t light and crispy as they should be, but rather bland, tough, and chewy. Their famed cheese bun(double the price of their other items) was extremely hard to eat and tasted like it had been left out for days. I was extremely disappointed in Maison Kayser’s baked goods since I went to other famed shops such as Sadaharu Aoki and Henri Charpentier recently, but I feel like the majority of decent bakeries in Canada are better than Maison Kayser!

I don’t know if it was the fact that it was 9 days into a trip and I was needing something non-Asian to eat, but Maison Kayser is definitely serving up some fantastic breads and some very good bites. The lunch special is well priced and features just the right amount of food. The corn chowder that we started with was good and creamy with crisp corn flavor. However, the butter croissant that was served alongside was sublime. Buttery flavor, flaky texture, what’s not to like about that. The entrée with the tender steak and the pomme frites(fries) was good and certainly nothing to sneer at. However, at that moment, the bread basket comes by. The staples like the sourdough and the potato breads were phenomenal. However, expand your horizons and try the fig or the tomato, both were nothing to sneer at either. Clearly, I’m a fat kid at heart who can enjoy their carbs. Ok.so it wasn’t just the non-Asian food, it was just darn good.
