It’s a hidden gem! There are no English signs outside the restaurant therefore we almost missed it. Food is totally delicious and so reasonable. Super friendly host. We ordered two tempura dinners, soups and beer. Everything was just perfect. Highly recommend.

This was the last place we had a real ‘main meal’ before leaving Japan(I miss you, Japan!) and it was an amazing choice. We really didn’t have very much tempura on our 10 day trip so I just knew we needed this. I was shocked to find this location wasn’t packed like the other one near Chuo, which we tried going to the night before and missed the last seating.(I almost cried, we took a $ 30 taxi there hahaa, that’s another story!) There was only one other person eating so I think they may have just opened up for dinner. The server was so attentive and sweet, mostly everyone in Japan is. He brought out a couple beers for us and then about 10 minutes later, laid out a beautiful bowl of fried everything + white rice. I have never seen a tempura soft boiled egg or tempura scallops. I was truly in heaven and it was the perfect last meal. I am dying to go back to Japan and I will definitely be coming back here when I do. I highly, highly recommend this spot with all of my fried-food-loving heart.

Amazing tempura. I’m not an adventurous eater but I loved everything in my bowl. Not even sure what it all was. And they can do a vegetarian bowl if need be.

What a delightful little restaurant! In my time in Tokyo, there’s only one restaurant I went to twice; this was it. I always felt welcome whenever I went there, despite my total lack of ability to speak Japanese. It’s a small restaurant, but larger than many of the micro restaurants; this place has a few booths plus seating at the«bar». The tempura is great. They give a good sized bowl of rice with the tempura on top. You don’t really notice it, but there’s some kind of sauce they put on the food that soaks down to the rice a bit and gives it some flavor. Back to the tempura though, it’s very good. When you arrive, they give you a menu(in both English and Japanese, with pictures) with 4 choices. Both times I got the thing in the bottom right corner(tenbaradon). I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you want some tempura. The only problem with this place is their drink selection, which is to say, none. I’ve learned that many similar restaurants don’t have sodas or beer. Fine. What kills me though is that unlike most of them, this place doesn’t even have water! Maybe you can get some if you speak Japanese. Not speaking Japanese though, the only drink available to me was coffee. Hot coffee. In July. Not exactly what I’d want to drink with dinner. Other than that though, this place is great!

Since this is my first time in Tokyo, I wanted to try the best of all my favorite Japanese dishes. After searching amongst various blogs of previous travelers, I was lucky to come across this fantastic tempura place! Like most other restaurants here, it is quite hard to find– even with Google maps in one hand and directions from a blogger’s review in the other. Probably the most helpful thing is to have a picture of the front door in mind and use any landmarks as much as possible. It took us a couple wrong turns, but finally we found the place! We opened the sliding door to be immediately greeted by the hostess, who sat us in a booth. There was also a bar area and a few other booths available. My first reaction was, oh no, this place looks so nice and it will probably be expensive. However, that is not the case! Dinner only ran us roughly 900 Yen each, which was a steal for how stuffed we were afterward. I ordered one of the tempura dishes, which came with 2 pieces of shrimp, wood ear mushroom, chili pepper, soft boiled egg, and a piece of fish. My bf got the tenbaradon bowl(bottom right of the menu), and we also had miso soup. While waiting, we sipped on the tea at the table, which turned out to have burnt peanuts in it and was delicious(it tasted similar to barley tea). The rice at the bottom of the tempura bowl was hands down the best rice I have ever eaten… And I ate rice nearly every day or twice a day growing up. It was that good! The tempura pieces were fried perfectly, and already came with sauce drizzled on top. The most interesting piece is the mushroom, which at first looks like a spiky black fish, but is actually soft inside. The waitress spoke limited English, but it wasn’t a problem at all. At one point, I wanted so water to I walked up to the water dispenser near the entrance, but she quickly intercepted and motioned that she’d be happy to bring it to the table. The whole time, she was very pleasant and gracious. Payment at the end was made at the front near the cashier. Tips: 1) if you know limited Japanese, make sure to at least look up the words for good evening and thank you 2) come on an empty stomach!

Wow! My partner suggested that we try this place for tendon(tempura on a rice bowl) because it was near our hotel. It was amazing! The tempura batter was slightly sweet, golden, and very crispy. My bowl had a fried soft boiled egg on top, which was perfectly cooked. The staff were all very sweet.

this place just opened next to my office in akasaka. we wen’t there at 11:30a today and they were already full with a line forming outside. very solid tendon(tempura on rice, not tempura with noodles), especially at the price. as they just opened they only have 1 item available, but the higher quality version(上) will be available from next week.
