A little French-Japanese gem in Hiroo. Because it was Saturday night and we were a table of 6, the Chef proposed us the prix fixe Dinner for ¥5,200 + drinks and it came to around ¥8,000/pers with beers, a bottle of white Muscadet and a great Burgundy(think it was a Morgon). We started with a refreshing gazpacho with a basil sherbet and thin slices of raw fish. I am usually not a fan of this kind of combination but that was masterfully done. Following was a Terrine de Foie Gras Maison served with toasted brioche — an American friend from Seattle who would normally not eat foie gras was delighted he did… Main dishes were a perfectly pan roasted and moist piece of fish served with a leak-tomato concoction and a courgette flower(truly delicious). And then we got roasted duck(cannette) filet perfectly seared with delicious root veggies and a coulis of cassis(red currant sauce). Both dishes were perfectly prepared and served. Desserts to share were a filo pastry pocket filled with roasted pineapple covered with melted black chocolate and served with a scoop of mint sherbet(the star of the 2 desserts), and the other dessert was a yummy chocolate moelleux served with a nougatine and chocolate sauce. Our very nice waiter(I should have asked for his name) happened to have studied wine making and the art of sommelier in Lyon and Burgundy and could converse in French as well as in Japanese of course. He helped pairing the dishes with some«all natural» wines(they only carry natural wines without chemical additives which are a bit pricier as compared to the a la carte food menu items). Overall it was a very delightful experience and worth the money. We will come back and thank you to my Swiss friend Lionel for this smart recommendation.
