Last night we visited this komazawa restaurant and were very disappointed with the food. We liked the interior of the restaurant and were hoping the food would be good too. The shoestring fries(all spice) were extremely salty, nearly too much to eat, and they were also soggy and cold. The dip options don’t seem to compliment the type of fries being made, and it was difficult to dip a soft chip into a chunky dip. Perhaps they could consider some softer dips like garlic aioli, a spicy chutney, or sour cream based dips. Also we found the ginger ale to be very average. The ginger flavour was too mild and the drink was too sweet with far to much ice in it. It seemed like there was about 60ml of drink with 200ml of ice. As we are local we were hoping to find a new great restaurant to visit often, but due to the poor food quality we will not return to the restaurant again.

I can confidently vouch for the ginger egg soda, and the fries. Everything else, is another story. I had the peanut butter and roasted banana bagel sandwich. Firstly, the bagel is obviously not a real bagel, which I kind of knew going in, but it still made me sad. The peanut butter was a bit scarce. The flavor was nice but there wasn’t enough to discern the texture. It came with a Greek yogurt side and a small cup of some condensed milk syrup. Hard to say if the yogurt was actually«Greek yogurt». It was thick, but a bit fluffy. Unusual, but I love all yogurt so I was ok with whatever it was. The condensed milk syrup had a faint honey flavor, which would make sense to pair with the yogurt. The combo of peanut butter/banana and yogurt was a bit strange though, and eaten with the roasted bananas, the yogurt didn’t really need an additional sweet sauce. Either way, not bad, but a bit confusing, I ended up not really know what to eat with what, and not really using the sweet sauce. I also got the bagel set, which is a drink for an additional ¥250. This was my first time trying the ginger ale, and I wasn’t a fan because it had an artificial sugar taste. I’m not sure if there was– perhaps an unfortunate alignment of spices, but it wasn’t good. My experiences getting food at BRF is often a bit awkward. Service is a bit spotty, food never comes at the same time. This time, I guess my glass of ginger ale had some syrup on the outside, which was quietly transferred to my hand, and then all subsequent utensils. Not a huge deal, but I did wish they had some wet naps, considering most — no wait — all of their foods are actually a bit messy. To summarize, I had to lower my ratings for BRF a bit due to my continuing dissatisfaction with their food and service, although their main selling points, I still believe in. Also just get the ginger egg soda.
