When you need a little piece of home, this is the place to go. I’m currently studying at Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakatashi. The area is littered with traditional japanese restaurants, yakiniku, takoyaki, etc. as to be expected. A place like the Hang On Café is truly a gem when all you’ve had for the past month are noodles and gyoza. The Hang On Café is located right on the side of a major highway, but the sign is so big, it would be hard to miss. The décor looks just like– you guessed it– an American bar. To be honest, it’s pretty authentic. Everything I saw in Hang On would be common place in the states, down to the neon COORS light signs and football memorabilia. I got a burger, because what else would you get at an American bar? I went with the リソコンバーガー. It was a double patty burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, bacon, and blue cheese. Words can’t describe how incredible it was to have a real burger after five weeks of being away from the U.S. I let the juices just run down my hands, without a care in the world if anyone was watching me eat like a total slob. It was that good. Not the best burger I’ve ever had, but so refreshing in a fatty, beefy way. Would I go back? Hell yeah. This place kicked ass. The staff was friendly and gave me the time to practice my japanese. I’ll definitely check out their beer selection, as it seems pretty good.
