It was 5am when I got to Tsukiji, so there was already a long line for Sushi Dai. So I decided to brave it out and try out another restaurant other than Dai or Daiwa. Yes, it’s one of the many other omakase sushi restaurants in Tsukiji. I decided to try out this restaurant because of some of the rave reviews written by food bloggers. The restaurant opens at 6am, I got there at 530 and was the first one in line. Shortly came a group of Japanese locals playing tourist on a weekday. It reassured me that it was a good choice to try out Ryuu. Like the others, one round of seating can accommodate about 15 guests. The omakase was 4300 yen for 10 piece sushi. You don’t get a plate or chop stick. The chef simply places your piece of nigiri on the sushi counter and you eat it traditionally with your hand. Yes, talk about authenticity!!! The sushi was simple, good and fresh. Within less than 20 minutes, I was in and out of the restaurant.

My personal favorite sushi restaurant in Tsukiji Fish Market is Ryu Sushi(Japanese: 龍寿司 meaning Dragon), and recommend to ANYONE who cannot bear waiting hours in line. Go for the 4,300 Yen«Omakase» or Chef’s Choice Sushi plate which comes with 10-pieces of the finest sushi, along with miso soup and hot green tea. You will be amazed at the freshness and quality. Fishmongers, usually eat something comforting like curry, ramen, fried rice or something deep-fried for their post-work meal. However, when they do eat sushi, it is not a surprise they come to eat at this venue. The jumbo prawn, ark shell, snapper, the conger eel are especially amazing. Legendary story where the late Matsushita, the founder of Panasonic, would order staff from Osaka to go to Tokyo just to pick-up Ryu Sushi’s Anago(conger eel). The venue is located along the Uogashi Yokochou.
