This looks like a hidden place in the heart of Tokyo. We walked for a bit to get there and were warmly greeted by the chef and his sister who run this place. We waited for a bit before sushi bar got open seats ordered omakase. It was just under 2000 yen per person. I enjoyed my lunch very much!

An old school sushi bar in Ningyo-Cho. So I had a meeting scheduled near Ningyocho Station. It made my mouth water. Why? I could not wait to return to Ootazushi(aka Ota Sushi). It is one of my favorite sushi bars in Tokyo. Signature characteristic is their big«neta»(fish). You won’t go home hungry. NOTETHATTHISREVIEWISBASEDONMYLUNCHEXPERIENCEONLY. Lunch: You cannot get a reservation for lunch. Which is actually good, because you don’t need to plan a head. Just show up, sit and wait on their tatami-seating area(there are two tables that are unused). Customers behave well, waiting patiently for their turn to be invited to the counter. Once seated, only people get their regular omakase, which is what I recommend. You could go with their 1.5 times the amount, but that would be too much food. SPACE: 10 counter seats. 3 tables on tatami, but they don’t use. There is a staircase to 2 °F, but it’s a mystery what’s up there. I really love the traditional atmosphere of the restaurant. It looks so Ningyo-cho. What the heck does that mean? Looks old. Service: Because this is more of a traditional institution, you might mistakenly think that sushi master is strict, but he is actually a very nice guy. I am certain he will welcome non-Japanese speaking foreigners. COST: Lunch is now 2300 Yen for regular Omakase or 3450 Yen for 1.5x the amount. DINNER: I really want to go back here for dinner. Dinner nigiri omakase is 6000 Yen, while the course that includes appetizers and such is 9000 Yen. CONCLUSION: Great sushi for a pretty good deal. If you want quality sushi, go here. As I noted in other sushi bar reviews, you pretty much get what you pay for. If you pay 1000 Yen for a lunch sushi, the quality is poor. Here, at 2300 Yen, you get really great quality sushi. Only negative aspect is their tight space. Seats are really tightly aligned. I like space, so this is not my ideal atmosphere, but I will keep coming back to to Oota Sushi for their food!

This is the kind of small tucked away sushi bar that you want to find through Unilocal! The scallops were out of this world and the chef made you feel right at home in his place.

This is our magical place in Tokyo. So hidden, and such a gem. The sushi is just the best thing I ever tasted, prepared omakase(at the chef’s choice) for 2000 yen per person. You’ll be just asked if you have any dislikes or allergies, and a choice of the maki that will finish your meal. The itamae is nice, speaks a few words in different languages and makes an effort in striking conversation. The environment is so familiar and small you’ll feel like you’re having lunch at a friend’s home. The place is tiny, that’s why most customers keep the secret. I’m surprised to find it reviewed on Unilocal

This is one of my favorite sushi bar in town. I really like this old building and old style sushi bar showing fish in front of the guest. Sushi chefs are old father and son. The waitress is his sister. Famil run atmosphere inside the restaurant is so slowly and cool. I sit on the bar all day. ¥1,800 for lunch set serves full volumes enough to fill my stomach. Especially toro tuna nigiri is nice and you can’t have this kind of nigiri other than the world. They put very toro between the rice and origina toro. So toro nigiri of Ota sushi has double decker style. very awesome :))
