I am still craving doughnuts from Mister Donut… fresh, soft, moist, not too sweet and absolutely delicious! Some western doughnut lovers may be taken aback by the lower levels of sweetness of a Mister Donut, even on their decadent looking creations. However, I prefer the subtle and less diabetes-inducing taste of the Mister Donut Doughnuts as it also makes me feel less guilty when I gobble up one or two or a half dozen. Misuta Donatsu offers a variety of seasonal flavors too. When I visited them in the summer, they had several green tea glazed and flavored donuts. In the winter, they had special strawberry flavors. They also have some specialty doughnuts like the crossaint donut and a honey-glazed churro that I have yet to try. You’ll find Mister Donut baking up goodness throughout Japan as it’s the largest donut chain in the country. Every store that I’ve been to has been very consistent with taste, quality, cleanliness, and service. Needless to say I’m hooked on Mister Donut and it’s a must do when I’m in Japan. Domo Arigato Misuta Donatsu! Oishikatta!

This is the largest donut franchise in all of Japan, so much so that Dunkin Donuts gathered its crullers and left the country in defeat. Much like the Battle of Iwo Jima in reverse only with rolling pins. Sayonara. Anyhow, this turned out to be the last stop Jamie W. and I made within Tokyo prior to our long journey home, and Jamie being Jamie, of course, it had to be a donut shop. We saw a long queue and figured we were in for a treat of Krispy Kreme proportions. Mind you, I had what I think was the best donut ever in New York City just two months prior at the Doughnut Plant near Chinatown. It was the Valrhona Chocolate Yeast Doughnut. Quite amazing, indescribably good really. With that fresh memory in mind, we just pointed to a random selection of four donuts — a Cinnamon Sugar one, a Glazed one, and two pre-Christmas treats, one with Strawberry frosting, the other with Chocolate, both with rainbow sprinkles, of course(photo: ). They were ¥129 a piece, which means they were about $ 1.15 each. Awful, especially the ones with the too-sweet frosting. The sponginess was oddly in need of a cake-like oomph to carry off the flavors. Perhaps it was more in line with the tastes of Japanese youth, not a sansei geriatric like me. DONUTS — 2 stars… awfully awful but I will give them credit for variety — and clearly the line was there for some reason AMBIANCE — 2 stars… a crowded, Western-style donut shop in the Ginza SERVICE — 2.5 stars… just a grab-n-go, no more TOTAL — 2 stars… Mister Donut needs a palate lobotomy

I love Mister Donut’s pon de ring and for just 100¥ what’s not to love? I’m surprised that Mister Donut shops are sparse in Tokyo! It was a nice walk from Hibiya Park! The day I had visited this shop in Ginza they opened a little before 9am! The staff here was very friendly! The shop is very clean and well kept. Of course, the pon de ring donut was amazing too! If you’ve never been to a Mister Donut, you’ve been missing out!!! It’s the BEST!!! SOOGOOD!!! :D I love the chewy(mochi-like) texture of the donut and it’s not so sweet like other donuts I’ve had in the states!
