I was determined to get my hair done while I was in Japan, and after wading through too many cutesy hairstyles, I found GARDEN Tokyo, whose catalog had an slightly grungy edge to the typical well-coiffed Japanese hairdo. The establishment itself is on the 11th floor of the H&M building. It has a raw, industrial look to it: exposed pipes on the ceiling, patchy concrete floor, starkly architectural furniture. My hairdresser, Nishiyama, was really accommodating. Actually, everyone was super accommodating and tried their utmost best to communicate with us. My hair became a glorious goddess-y mane after her deft styling, although frankly I’ve had more technically complex haircuts(Warren from essensuals in Singapore — I wish you were in NYC!) The haircut by a ‘super top stylist’ was about 8000 yen. I was told that they might be opening a NYC outlet in the next year or so — go figure!
