It’s funny to see what people will come to when a brand is slapped on it. I have to include myself in this statement when, near by, we opted to have lunch at the Monocle Café. If you’re a die-hard fan of the magazine and the brand then by all means come and dine in the space they’ve created. It’s so on brand it hurts but do keep expectations in check. It’s not fine dining. At best it’s cafeteria dining and it works for the surrounding office workers escaping for lunch. The coffee, All Press from NZ, is actually surprisingly good. I ordered the taco rice salad and my companion the cheeseburger. But look: let’s lay it out on the table. You’re in Tokyo. There’s endless number of places you and your yet-to-be read copy of Monocle could explore, grab a bite to eat together and feel even more global and smug about finding a hidden gem in amongst a city of so many people and I’d probably suggest doing just that.
