We came because one of our friends heard about this café. It is an anti-loneliness café. When we heard that, we just had to see what this was all about. Will we see lonely men next to a giant stuffed animal? When we got there we had a bit of a line. In front, they had a few of the Moomin plushes sitting out front. When we sat down, we were accompanied with our giant plushie friend. I think it’s pretty cute. We didn’t get to choose who accompanied us, though. We had an awkward basket of white… worms? We ended up taking an empty tables kangaroo. Hopefully that wasn’t too rude of us. The menu had things like sandwiches and little pancakes with the characters decorated on. We all ordered the café au lait. I think they were decent. We mostly came to see what all the hype was about and what interesting types of people would be there. It turned out it was mostly a bunch of young teenage girls. No lonely and single men. Poo. All in all. fun experience if you just want a chill brunch/lunch type of atmosphere.

Aw, Moomin. The loveable Finnish cartoon character. Upon planning our trip to Tokyo, this place was a must do on our list. We loved the idea of eating with stuffed animals(definitely big in Japan but uncommon in the U.S.) and had to check this place out. Be prepared for a long line, the Tokyoiites love this café and are willing to wait for it. Secondly, the actual food options are not going to be appetizing coming from the U.S.(think very different meat paste, cheap waffles with fruit, and sub-par lattes) so if you’re going, go for the experience. The service was okay. The waitresses were very accommodating when we requested sitting with Moomin vs. friends of Moomin(such as the kangaroo). However, our food took a very long time to make and it was confusing trying to get the bill(could have been our inability to speak Japanese). Ultimately, sitting with Moomin far exceeds the Moomin café food. Arigato gozaimasu for the very interesting experience!

We discovered this spot via a Huffington Post article about the bizzare practice of seating solo diners with giant stuffed animals. We had to see it. Apparently we weren’t the only ones as there was a bit of a line to get in. The lunch options didn’t seem too appetizing anyway, so we decided to skip the line and grab a few items from the bakery. This was a good call as they were delicious. I had no idea what I was buying, but regardless, it was good. The cashier did her best to help us pick something, but in the end we just grabbed a few and went outside to eat them at a table. I would say the highlight was the cheesy bread. It tasted like smashed Goldfish crackers inside a bun. Excellent. If you happen to be in the Tokyo Dome area, it’s definitely worth a stop in.
