I’ve written a handful of reviews about how tradition lives on in Japan, and here’s another one of them. Goldfish have been a popular pet in Japan since the Edo period(or maybe even before that), and the goldfish have evolved in color and style through breeding and importing new types from abroad. According to their website, this store has been in business for 350 years! Dang! This little café down the hill has a number of large pools filled with everything from common goldfish to fancy ones. Each type of goldfish are pooled together. They even hold«goldfishing» where one can«fish» koi and whatnot. I didn’t look into it but it seems like neighborhood children spend what little allowance they have on this activity. Inside the café, tiny fishbowls are placed at most tables… It would’ve been great if Mr. Goldfish at our table wasn’t so inanimate. –1 for that. He looked so weak and tired!!! Talk about losing your appetite. The goldfish at other tables were up and about, swimming effortlessly. Everything they offered was at a reasonable price and the atmosphere was comfortable.

My first time here so I had to have their signature black beef curry and I was NOT disappointed. The lunch set came with your choice of black tea, Chinese tea, or coffee(hot or iced), a green salad, miso soup, a small dish of pickled onions, ginger, and cucumbers, black beef curry, and annindofu for desert. I highly recommend the Iced Chinese tea with this set. The curry was tasty and the beef was very tender. Portions were just right. Cost was ¥1700, so a little high for a lunch set, but given the quality still reasonable and recommended.
