Their deli food is delicious. I’ve tried several of the items there and all of them made me want to come back for more. The lasagna is tasty and I love the history there. There’s the old Roman Road running alongside the basement and they don’t mind if you just go in and take a peak. They sell things like olives in jars, oils, pastas, etc as well as plenty of ready to eat items. We took dinner home from here one night and were very happy with out selection.

I know Il Ceppo since I was a little girl. It has always been a fine deli with the highest quality of prosciutti, formaggi, and ready to go meals. Several years ago the store was remodeled and it always carried on the fine deli reputation… and now they did the basement! It is not an ordinary basement if you think that only few yards away there is Palazzo Chiericati where just a couple of years ago they found ancient ruins and archeologists were called on site for a lengthy restoration. The feeling I had in Il Ceppo basement is the very close to the one I had visiting the undergroung floor of Palazzo Chiericati. I knew Il Ceppo well but I did not know about the knew restaurant… we found it by chance… walking in the Corso… It was serendipity! Before deciding to eat there, we went downstairs to peek… I was told that it used to be a storage which they turned into a «Cantina» style dining. It has few seating places… no more than 25, and along the walls there are bottles of wines. Amazing bottles of wine… sooooo many of them! After checking the menu, we decided we had to try it out. Il Ceppo serves mainly local specialties, and regional wines. The service was attentive, and the food just the way we expected it. We were very happy with our choice of wine too! The bill was what surprised us the most, it was half of what we expected!!! Il Ceppo«underground» restaurant might not have a great view but is you want to jump back in ancient times and taste the local delicatessens you really should try it out. Since places are limited I suggest reservation.
