If there was a definition for tourist trap in the dictionary this place would be it, 110%. Definitely avoid and stay away at all costs if you’re visiting Venice. The staff are greedy, deceitful, and by far the worst we encountered throughout all of Italy. If you’re unsure of where this shop is, it’s facing the Rialto vaporetto stop with a display case of old mounded gelato. We stumbled upon this shop while looking for a restroom and found it eerily quiet despite its prime location… odd and in hindsight we should have known better. My husband ordered a double cappuccino, clearly stating double in Italian during the request. The female worker seemed confused and after going back and forth we told her no, it was okay and a single was fine. Well, she insisted on the original order and we waited at the counter. I used the restroom and met my husband who had finished his drink and was sitting down resting his feet momentarily at a back table. We then proceeded to pay and again, the same lady who helped us(ponytail and poster child for 5 years later in a faces of meth PSA… you’ll get the reference if you make the mistake of going like we did) went back and forth in Italian with a coworker trying to decide how and what to charge us. She then told me, «Price is 7 euros.» Whaaat, really?! I asked why so much and told her the price was too expensive for one coffee. She told me that because we sat down the price was more and that get this, «making a double is like making TWO coffees.» Oh please, what a joke. My husband sat down for 30 seconds while waiting for me to use the restroom, far from the table service one expects to pay in cafes throughout Italy. While waiting for my husband to pay, she glared at us and talked trash in Italian about us with her coworker. Klassy. Please avoid this place and the entitled, scamming workers who run this café when you visit Venice.
