Good as an inexpensive option in Venice. Convenient as it is a few steps from the train station. Not for tourists looking for fine dining or food, but good enough for the price.

Had the salami sandwich which tasted so fresh. The freshly squeezed orange good was so refreshing!

Nothing to write home about, but it’s a decent cheap place to grab coffee and a snack, which isn’t easy to find near the train station. After wandering past cafes charging € 8 or € 9 for a «continental breakfast» (read: «overpriced coffee and croissant»), I was happy to find this self service place. Got a decent (good by Starbucks standards, so-​so by Italian standards) croissant with an apple filling and macchiato for € 1.90.

My brother and I stopped here after missing the last train back to Florence. (We had to wait at a train station platform in mainland Venice until 3am, but that’s another story.) This place had free Wi-​Fi, cheap food and wine, restrooms (with token from staff), and ample seating. We split a small bottle of wine, e-​mailed our family, and had some decent food before heading off to wait for our train. Nothing special, but points for the Wi-​Fi and restrooms.

menu in English. Highly disappointed!

Cool place with self service, lot of choice and pretty low prices. Wine is just over 1 € and if you take spritz + buffet it costs only 4 €. If you need to go to the toilet first pick up the coin at the kassa.

Ideal option for a casual lunch experience with great prices. Not marketed as a formal restaurant and this is reflected in the self-​service café design.
The pasta was excellent and for less than 7 Euros for lunch and decent local wines at just over 1 Euro for a glass this is perhaps the best low cost dining option offering local food and drink available in the city.
Well located also from the main train station.
Preferred eating here for casual lunch than some of the over-​prices tourist traps at 5 times the price but not much difference in the quality.

I went here because Rick Steves recommended it in his guidebook. Brek is a self-​service/​cafeteria-​style food place in Venice. For what it was worth, I enjoyed my meal.
Low prices and good if you are looking for a quick bite to eat. In terms of décor/​vibe, it reminded me of an Italian food Panera; replace soup and sandwiches with pasta and other Italian dishes.
Tip: enjoy some self-​served wine for approximately a couple euros per glass!

Not bad. Decent… coffee bean/​panera type of place with good coffee and sandwiches. Grab a drinking you’re up for it. Not a mom and pop shop, so workers are busy keeping their bosses happy, don’t take it personal.
You can grab fresh salads and eat there or picnic elsewhere. Wifi is good and the place is comfortable, larger than most small businesses. Has a buffet that we didn’t need to try.

One of several other Brek restaurants in northern Italy (Milan, Turin, and Verona). Has many options for on the go as well as sit-​down.
It may appear to be small from the outside, but it’s a rather large space in Venice eatery standards. At the entrance is the coffee bar and quick items for on the go. The restaurant extends far back into the building.
Prices are very reasonable. Lunch (pollo arrosto con patate) was 10 euro. Went back for apertivo in the afternoon for 4 euro for a spritz and snacks.

One of the best breakfast cappuccino deals in Venice. Close to train station with very accessible bathroom.

BATHROOM BREK! Not really… but this cafeteria style eatery has one of the most accesible bathrooms if you’re just getting into venice from the train, and exactly what my wife and I did. The food isn’t bad either, and relatively cheap!
7.50 euro Pick any 2 Pastas… I got Pesto Spinich lasagna and Penne Arribiatta, not bad for the price!
4.70 euro Salad bar. Grab a bowl, stuff as much as you can inside.

Italian fast food, partly self service. Good for those in a hurry, travellers, people lacking confidence to eat in restaurant, anyone on a budget. Food can be variable but you see before you buy.

Brek ist eine italienische fast food-​Kette, die aber mit halbwegs passabler Qualität aufwarten kann. Wir sprechen hier von italienischem fast-​food, also Pasta, Pizza, Salate und Sandwiches. Nebenbei ist es wie bei jeder fast food Bude immer ein schöner Ort um halt unterwegs das Örtchen aufzusuchen. Das kann manchmal sinnvoll sein wenn man in den letzten drei Stunden schätzungsweise 6 doppelte espressi und einen guten Liter Wasser intus hat.
Von diesem primären Grund mal abgesehen zu Brek zu gehen ist der Laden eigentlich gar nicht so schlecht. Aufgebaut ist er ähnlich wie ein Mövenpick Marché. Es gibt eine Café– und Sandwich-​Theke am Eingang und eine Bar dahinter. Einen Food-​Bereich dahinter mit warmen und kalten Selbstbedienungsbuffet in Marktform angerichtet. Bezahlt wird nachher was auf dem Tablett gelandet ist.
Insbesondere für den Salatesser (ist bei den gerade vorhandenen 35 Grad sicher nicht die übelste Idee) ist die Auswahl sehr gut und macht auch qualitativ einen guten Eindruck. Preislich siehts wie zu erwarten recht günstig aus.
Wir hatten selbst keinen Hunger, aber der obligatorische café musste sein. Der war ebenfalls sehr gut (na klar, das zumindest bekommt man in Italien selbst in der letzten versifften Tabak-​Bude in herausragender Qualität) und günstig.
Ich denke den Laden kann man für einen Quick-​Lunch oder für denjenigen mit schmaler Urlaubskasse durchaus sehr empfehlen. Wie das Marché auch würde ich hier aber nicht unbedingt Romantik oder Gemütlichkeit erwarten ;-)
Wie immer bewerte ich in Preis-​Leistungs-​Relation. Insofern sind hier vier Sterne durchaus gerachtfertigt. Insbesondere wenn man die Lage direkt in der Fussgängerzone vom Hauptbahnhof Richtung Ponto Rialto mit berücksichtigt.

In der Nähe des Bahnhofs befindet sich eine Filiale der italienischen Restaurantkette Brek. Dort bekommt man recht zügig warme Speisen, und das zu kleinen Preisen. Pasta al pomodoro gibt es beispielsweise für 3,90 Euro. Leider sind die Portionen nicht sehr groß; ich hätte locker doppelt so viel essen können.

Durch Venedig gelaufen, von Touristen bedrängt, von Japanern photographiert, am Ende gar noch von Killertauben angefallen worden? Und jetzt hängt Dir der Magen in den Knien und Du möchtest Dich jetzt einfach einmal hinsetzen und etwas Warmes in den Bauch bekommen, ohne gleich das komplette Budget für die nächsten 3 Tage auszugeben?
Wenn Du jetzt in der Nähe des Bahnhofs bist, hast Du Glück gehabt, denn hier hat es einen brek, Teil einer Kette von ordentlichen Selbstbedienungsrestaurants, in denen so ziemlich alle Variationen vom einfachen Caffè (mit oder ohne Brioche) über den Teller Pasta bis zum Mehr-​Gänge-​Menü drin sind — und das zu bezahlbaren Preisen.
