Went here in 2009. The guy behind the counter gave us yummy cheese and meats to taste and delicious wine. The olive oil was made by his friend. It was so good we bought a bottle of it to take home. So good. I almost forgot about this place, but then I saw a sign for Columbus salami with the wooden bike, and I was like, «Hey! I know that place!» The second day we came in was just when school was getting out. He dimmed lights and played techno while he made sandwiches for the locals. So cool.

Took the shopkeeper’s recommendation on a roast pork sandwich for lunch. Came to € 10.80, but worth the money, it was massive. Good hunks of cheese and pork served simply in bread. Cool place to go and visit, if you can handle the slightly strange entrance!

This tiny, extravagantly decorated shop features fine, classic meats and cheeses, a little bit of wine and water, and basically nothing else. If you order a sandwich, you’re charged for the fillings on a calibrated-eye basis, and the thick crusty bread comes free. You won’t want vegetables or condiments, which is good because there aren’t any. There are no seats, and no menu. We asked for whatever was good, and got a huge sandwich of soft salami and pecorino cheese, lunch for two, for 8 euros.

We decided to visit this place after reading about it in the shopping section of Lonely Planet Florence. It is a meat shop that also sells pannini. We entered through the velvet roped entrance under the boar taxidermy(wearing sunglasses). We were greeted by friendly, welcoming staff who spoke good English. We were surrounded by dozens of meats hanging from the ceiling — all made in house. When we ordered 2 pannini, the butcher offered to make us a tray of antipasta(meats and cheeses). He made this beautiful tray of at least 6 different kinds of meats — all made in house — including salami, cappicola, proscuittto, and others. We also got several kinds of cheese plus cups of pesto dip, olive oil, mango chutney and some other spicy ragu. We also ate several slices of bread including a special bread with meat mixed in. The butcher then recommended a wine to accompany our lunch. When we finished all this, we were given a dessert bread with sweet wine. The meats and cheese were excellent as was the wine. All passer-bys eyed our dish and many went inside. We went with the flow and didn’t ask about pricing knowing that we may have been suckered a bit. We were tourists of course. We were charged 30 euro for the meat and cheese(50 euro/kg) + 3 euros for the bread and 19 euros for the bottle of wine. An expensive meal for lunch, but a priceless experience. Definitely something fun to do!

The staff is funny, outgoing, and super helpful! They recommended some excellent meats, cheeses, breads, and wines. They made me up a full platter of food to have for a picnic and even uncorked the bottle of wine and provided plastic cups. A romantic evening in Siena for only € 20…

This is a magical little place. Order a glass of good wine and just soak up the atmosphere.

There is a little corner of paradise in Siena, were you can find a rest after a day spent among culture and art. With its salami and pieces of cheese in his shop window, the Pizzicheria De Miccoli is like a mermaid in the ocean of primordial food. Her song is the smell that catch you as soon as you enter the street. The victim? You, and your basic instincts. You get in hypnotized, and once you are in all you can do is to choose one of the delicacies of the Tuscan food culture. One of their main dish is the porchetta, a sandwich with a roast pork filling. You can have a seat and eat there(the place is small but cosy), or ask for a take away sandwich, in case you are planning a pic-nic on the hills around Siena. Don’t forget to ask for a good glass of wine, and if you still have some space in your stomach, why not a local dessert. Outside there is a funny bike made of bamboo and a boar head. Ehm, sorry. no veggie allowed.
