We just happened to be passing through when this was taking place. I don’t know what the headline acts were but the free concerts were great! This is one of two big events in Perugia, the other being EuroChocolat. Definitely check it out if you happen to be in or near the area!

The Umbria Jazz Festival is one of the best jazz festivals in Italy. Held in the city of Perugia you can expect to see a wide variety of different performers each year including artists from world music, Cuban Salsa, tribal and even Rock n Roll. Over the years I’ve been probably 5 times. Many of the performances are free to watch whilst some that are hosted in the 4,500-seat Giardini del Frontone are generally paid for concerts(but well worth the money in my eyes!) The festival runs for around 10 days each year and has been going strong since 1973, celebrating it’s 40th anniversary last year. Around 200,000 people attend each year so it can get quite crowded in the streets. I wouldn’t advise taking younger children solely for this reason. Other venues you will find live performances: — The Pavone theatre — Oratorio Santa Cecilia — Piazza IV Novembre — Carducci Gardens — Palazzo della Penna Tickets normally vary from FREE — € 120. Lineup for 2014 has already been announced. I hope this has helped some of you out there. Thanks, Paul
