The Aeroporto di Genoa is a bit of a cab ride from Downtown and is on the small side. We were flying out on Air France/Brit Air, but and Ryan Air flies here, plus you can get to Istanbul via Turkish Airlines. Gayle has departure anxiety, so were were here 3 hours ahead of our flight. That was more than enough time, and once we were past Customs, there wasn’t much to do rather than do some basic Duty Free shopping, grab a snack, and wait. Yet, small airports do have their advantages in terms of lesser congestion and enhanced simplicity.

Give yourself 3 hours. If you are flying RyanAIr — maybe 12 hours. I can’t be sure. This was an absolute nightmare. Crazy long check-in line. Medium crazy security line. Super crazy passport control line. Running to flight to board. Not relaxing. You’ll most likely fly into here to connect to Cinque Terre(I did!). So that’s a positive! The plusses: *easy airport bus to main Genoa train stations(should you need to connect). It is 6 euros, and payable on board if you are in a rush. It’s about 25 euros to take a taxi, so if you have 4 people — better to just take one. *It only has 5 gates, so easy to navigate. Otherwise, it’s fairly clean, a few food/drink options(but not many) and pretty unorganized. Arrividerci — was pretty stoked to get the hell out of this airport after waiting in line for 3 hours!

Cute little airport… on the Ligurian coast of Italy. It looks as though mainly smaller aircraft are utilized here; as I was on a CRJ700 operated by Air France/Brit Air(and there were other smaller aircraft visible as well). Arrival via CRJ, we disembarked outside with the stairs and then had a short walk on the tarmac and up a short flight of stairs to enter the jetway of the airport. Baggage claim was small and efficient. The short time that I arrived, the property looked rather clean. After arrival, you’ll find several car rental companies to choose from. If traveling up to Northern Italy, this may make a nice alternative to flying into one of the larger city airports. ** Oh, and if you’re debating on where to sit for the best views on arrival — –choose a seat on the right side/window of the aircraft. The approach is from the Southeast, so you’ll get a nice view of the coast and the port of Genova.
