Me and my mum had booked a room for 3 nights. First night my mum got a couple bites and the second night to our shock we both were bitten a lot which confirmed the fact the bed was terribly infested with bed bugs. I approached the receptionist at 2am and the guy didn’t take enough cognizance of the situation and avoided for a while saying that they didn’t have any vacant rooms. It was impossible to stay there even for another hour after we found quite few bugs below the sheets, so I threatened him of posting bad reviews which made him allot us a small room for the night. Hospitality was very poor. Cleanliness was big time not paid attention to. 200 yrs old building lack of proper maintenance. What I liked about the hotel? location and breakfast.

3 stars for this«3 stars» hotel! The hotel is closer to 2 stars according to French standards: the rooms are small but functional, there’s air conditionning and a basic breakfast is included. The staff at the front desk was always very friendly, and the small balcony overlooking the duomo was very nice, but the walls are pretty thin and I had to sleep with earplugs. The hotel is very nicely located though: not even 10 minutes from the train station, and 5 minutes from the covered market. I guess it’s a good option in crowded expensive Florence.

Great location, friendly staff, clean & decent sized room. Breakfast each morning was adequate and convenient. Walls were a little thin, but it wasnt too much of an issue.

Pro The couple that own the hotel is very nice location is good Con — the place is a little run down and small; not quite a 3 star hotels (specially compare to our 3 star hotel in Rome — the wall is very thin and at night you can hear people talk and walk, etc If you stay here, not sure if it actually work but try ask for room away from the street. (I emailed them to ask for room away from stree, and they said they will tried but it didn’t happen. In a way, I actually don’t understand why it didn’t happen — as in our group we had 3 rooms, others in our group had rooms away from street, so there were room away from the street that were available…

Hotel Kursaal Ausonia is in close proximity to the train station Santa Maria Novella and the Duomo. How close? About a 6 minute walk to the train station and a 10 min walk to the church. This is good just in case you want to take a day trip to a nearby town/city/village or need to be near the shopping district and pretty much everything. There is also a grocery store down the street as well as numerous restaurants and a local pub frequented by most of the young people in town. The hotel itself is very nice and serves any need you have. The room is spacious as far as European standards go. The bathroom is updated and modern. However, the in-house hair dryer is terrible. It gives off less heat than a hand dryer. Bring your own if you don’t air dry your hair. Also, there is a string in the shower. Do not pull this string unless you have an emergency. I found this out when the front desk called my room to ask if I was okay. Oops. Hotel Kursaal Ausonia is set up like a house. You can wander the halls and sit in the living room as if it were your own. Complimentary breakfast of coffee, croissant, juice, and ham is provided each morning. There is an extensive library of guidebooks for Italy and nearby countries available to read. I spent practically every night going through the books to properly plan my days. The front desk staff is extremely helpful and nice. They answered all my questions, gave me advice, and googled places when I needed directions and addresses. I highly recommend this hotel. –There is a Florence city tax that is collected. 3 Euro per person per day.
