The American diner in Calenzano was one of the first American friendly restaurants open up around Florence, of course I immediately stress all my friends to go there, and the first time strictly dress code. Plus points: * The burgers are delicious and the desserts even better. * The restaurant is delicious, American-style 50ies, complete with a Cadillac, waiters and waitresses with suspenders or as pin up on skates. Minus points: * The disorganization. You must book in advance to be able to have a nice opportunity to wait half an hour /an hour for a table. Oh yes, because would you expect to have the table you reserved without waiting? Too simple! They always invoke the excuse of something unexpected that they just couldn’t imagine would happen exactly today … * Being a bit ‘naught. To get to this Diner you must have a car, cause it is out of the city center, out of the city center surroundings, in the industrial area ofCalenzano … Landscape 2.0 Despite everything you do still forgive, as soon as you can sit down: you always get out satisfied and full as an egg. Better organization in the one opened in Florence, anyway. Recommended bacon cheeseburger, the banana split and the Oreo cake. Even the chocolate milkshake isn’t that bad.

Sunday, monday happy days … Thursday, friday happy days, the week end comes …

We have been here several times, the first in February and again in July. They have added more seating since the last time, mostly by removing the 50 Chevy from the inside. They also have outdoor seating as well as the bountiful seating inside. This place is wonderfully decorated with 1950’s traditional American décor. From the Chevy’s parked outside to the juke box inside to the waiters dressed in 50’s attire(oh, and did I mention they are on roller skates) this place would feel like home in any American town. The last time we were ther they had the movie Grease playing on a screen. They always have traditional 50’s music playing and on some nights have live bands. It is a little ways outside of Florence but easy to get to by car, taxi, or bus(there is a bus stop right in front of the dinner. Take the #2 bus from SMN). Don’t be hesitant becausse on the distance; it is well worth the trip. Especially when you are craving the American food you haven’t had since you moved here. If you are looking for authentic American cuisine this is the spot. Burgers, fries, chili, hot dogs, chicken fingers, and even shakes. I had the burger with bacon and guacamole, the chicken burger(or chicken sandwich), their chili(which was amazing, the best I have found here), and the nachos(which from seeing previous posts looks like they recently changed it up. Chips, mix of American cheeses, guacamole, sour cream, and chili.)(this and the HRC are the only two places that make nachos taste amazing) Their shakes are good but a little watery and not as thick as I am use to. We have been fortunate to see two birthday parties here and they have a cake(well really just a large stack of donuts) with sparking candles. It is very fun to see. I highly recommend this place hence the 5 star rating. While the place is filled with mostly Italians, the owner/manager was extremely excited to have two Americans dine with them. The place is always packed so I would recommend a reservation especially since you may be coming from Florence center city. However we just popped in this last time without one and were lucky enough to find they had seating available. So now go and have your own wonderful experience of the 1950’s American style.

this place is very cool and very kitsch. We went there last Tuesday for the first time(you need to make reservations) and we loved it. Very nicely decorated and stayed true to a real 1950’s American diner. The owner really paid attention to detail when making this restaurant. The menu is rather extensive. I liked my bacon cheeseburger but I did not like my nachos(its almost impossible to find good nachos in Italy anywhere but yet for some reason I always order them). I recommend the salads & tex-mex items on the menu like chilli con carne, burritos & ribs. I also think the dolce-desserts were really good. Prices were normale-normal and this place is WAY better than the«wild west» in gigli. ;) Try to go during the week and make sure to ask for a divanetto(booth).
