Twin wings of Dunmore East’s strand — Councillor’s to the north and Lawlor’s to the south. Councillor’s is accessed from the high road which winds up the cliff, while Lawlors sits at the heart of the village. Both are lovely sandy beaches, with beautifully transparent waters. If you’ve been messing around on an airbed or rubber dinghy, pay attention to the tides — the water is so clear that it’s tough to know how deep the water is as you can see the ridges of sand and the shells on the seabed. I’ve often jumped out and been taken aback by the depth of the water. Stretch out on «Peg’s Finger» at Lawlors, a natural line of rocks that extends out into the bay, and be chased back to shore by the incoming tide. Both are manned by lifeguards, and can be busy at summer weekends.
