There is no way to not give this restaurant 5 stars, absolutely no way. The atmosphere, the staff and of course the food were top notch. The whole experience was not«cheap», but the pricing is cheap per American standards. My wife had the Fish Trio, I had the chicken curry. We shared the calamari and the vegetables(the broccoli was the best I’ve ever had). Everything was so simple, yet so incredibly good. My only regret is that we were only passing through and stopped for lunch. Though I say simple, most know simple isn’t always easy. This is one of the best places I’ve ever been Don’t cheat yourself if you’re anywhere in the area, eat there

Fantastic meal! Wonderful experience. HIGHLY recommended. Here is my breakdown: *. Event: My wife’s birthday and our second day of two weeks visiting Ireland. *. Greeted warmly at the door by one of the owners carmel(sp?) and quickly setup with a table for four. *. Very Interesting menu accommodating my meat eating, my wife’s vegetarian needs, my 8 year old’s simple needs and my mother-in-laws«selective nature» *. Appetizer: A perfect vegetable soup. *. Mains: Ordered a turkey, bacon, onion stuffing and cranberry sauce dish. Hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten(I travel professionally around the world and eat well). The essence of Thanksgiving on a plate plus perfectly fresh veggies and a baked potato. My wife LOVED the Salmon, my Mother-in-law had a fish Trio and my son Pasta. Everyone at the table raved about their dish, we each sampled each other’s and agreed . *. Dinner was complimented by a nice bottle of French wine. *. After our meal we had a lovely conversation with the owner and learned about her husband Greg(the Chef) Combined they make a perfect front and back of the house pair. *. We were treated to Irish coffees, a birthday song and an Ice Cream Sunday for wife with a trick candle to add a little more fun to the evening. If I’m back in Tullamore, trying more of the menu will be at the top of my list!

I went here recently for dinner with my family. I’d been told it was good… I just wasn’t prepared to be blown away. Never have I been to a place where everyone literally raved about every course after the meal. I went for the soup… a force of habit. It was very tasty. But I tasted my father’s garlic mushrooms and I could see why he had a broad grin on his face. My wife had a penne pasta starter with the most delicious sauce. What a great start! I went for a barbecued chicken main and I wasn’t disappointed. That said, I think everyone in the group had something different and they were all impressed. I wasn’t able for anything more than ice cream afterwards but I left the place feeling like I’d just eaten a meal fit for royalty! I have to mention the staff as well. Not only did they return to the table with the food and gave everyone their correct plate without having to ask who had ordered what but they were also attentive in an understated way. If anyone asks me where to go for dinner in Tullamore, I won’t be able to anything other than«The Acorn».
