Shot a wedding at Ardgillan last Friday and it’s a great location for a small civil ceremony. I’m not sure what the limit is on numbers of if larger rooms are available, but the room we were in would allow for around 50 or so at a guess. The ceremony room we were in was beautiful, with plenty of character and the large windows which let in lots of light. After the ceremony everyone moved to the reception room of the far side of the entrance hall for drinks and chat. It really does feel a bit special, a very attractive alternative to a registry office. Outside there’s a large lawn that sweeps down towards the sea and plenty of trees, which are always useful as backgrounds for portraits. There’s also a walled garden close by, so no one has to walk far from their guests if a second setting is required for wedding photos. The walled garden is terrific, especially at this time of year. We really enjoyed working there, everyone involved was really helpful with suggestions. The grounds are fab, we’ve been there on family days with our son and he’s had a blast running about the place — there’s a well kept children’s play area with swings and slides to keep them busy too. The tour of the house is enjoyable, especially to have a rummage around the old books in the library, and there’s a Tea Room to sit back and enjoy afterwards.
