Portumna Castle was built between 1610 and 1618 at a cost 0f 10,000 British pounds(more than $ 16,000 U.S. dollars). It sits near the northern edgo of Lough(Lake) Derg, off the River Shannon. It was considered without equal in style, grandeur in distinction and was one of the first castles in Ireland to carry Renaissance refinements already common in France and Italy for more than a century. The castle has been wonderfully preserved and visitors are welcome.

Sehr schönes Herrenhaus in Portumna !! Das Schloß bei Portumna wurde um 1618 von Richard de Burgo, dem 4. Earl von Clanricarde, erbaut. Es handelt sich dabei um ein typisch irisches Herrenhaus, an dessen Nordseite sich ein geometrisch angelegter Garten anschließt. Dieses Schloß ist zu einem Museum ausgebaut !! Der eintritt lohnt sich !!
