The rather pleasant Crescent in Monkstown appears to have a new addition to its little stretch of restaurants and cafes. Café Journal is a beautiful, fuzzy sweet spot, with wonderful staff and a great menu. The same can’t really be said for Cinnamon a few doors down. I met my mum there before heading up to vote, on her suggestion. It is the second of its kind, the first one being in Ranelagh. It was a minor infringement, but the new fella thought we wanted four people instead of two for some reason, and put me at the back of the restaurant. I attempted to do a runner when some ghastly precocious brats were seated near us shortly after. But we were moved with ease. I decided to get the early bird offer and start with the sizzling prawn and chorizo. It was tasty enough, but there was too much butter in the sauce which made it overpowering, the bread given with it was not a particularly nice texture. My second course was the Moroccan spiced veggie tagine, which again had a weird unbalance of sharp flavours. I had a last minute dessert of lemon posset, the best one of the bunch from a measly selection on the early bird menu. We didn’t sample much wine as the cheapest bottle was € 24 for house red which is ridiculous. Overall it was fine, but I think it would be better for lunch or an outside coffee.

I went here for a cup of coffee in the afternoon. It is beautifully decorated and situated just outside the bustle of the crescent of Monkstown. I would definitely go back, and hopefully will try out food next time!

I went for lunch here with my Dad midweek. The specials of the day all sounded great, we had trouble deciding(sizzling prawns, buffalo wings, fish and chips). I chose the fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce. It was delicious. Our waitress was very friendly. She even gave me some free brownie whilst we were paying our bill as the chef«had made a new batch that didn’t quite work out».(Note: it still tasted good and was free!) I look forward to returning soon!

Went there on several occasions for brunch and coffee. Brunch is good but not my favourite. Had eggs benefit, the muffin was a little dry. However they have delicious cakes. Staff isn’t always super nice and it can be really noisy during the weekend.

We live in Monkstown and were happy to visit as its great to see new restaurants in the Crescent. Our visit was just after it opened– it was crowded and chaotic but as I say it was just open but with the stressed manageress berating a young staff member, it was more like a scene from Oliver Twist than happy dining! Not rushing back

Deeeeeelicious. Sister to Cinnamon in Ranelagh, and by God is it great. Great interior, very cool. Service is very friendly and the menu suits all acquired tastes. Perfect spot for lunch/brunch. They also have a very cosy outdoor area at the front and offer cosy rugs so you can sink into their oversized leather armchairs and bask in the sun****. *weather may vary
