Killarney Grand Hotel

Kilarney Grand hotel, music set up for tourists.
if you have never been to a session, this is a session you can find and you will be sent to.
The traditional music was played nice and s l o w so the tourists could follow it. the 1130pm set (they have lots of free sets) was extremely loud and may have been a very good HS band, but they over drove the speakers, which upset my sense of taste and ears. also could not talk with folks without screaming, which precluded discussions about how to save the world. The bass player was allowed to explore a novel theory about playing a plastic box and a cymbal.
Eventually, the Johnny Cash song was recognizable. The singer with a nasal voice got his voice covered by overdriven, ahh, overdriven everything. This was the worse so-​called session this trip.
But the tourists loved it, I think they think, and it was tolorable.
bonus points to the grand to offering time to a group that truely might make something of themselves and for supporting tourists who otherwise couldn’t make their ways from Michigan or Ohio to a foreign culture with both hands.
I cannot image going back unless I was on the pull and forget everything I knew.
Bouncers were oddly friendly, which put me off.
2 stars, but might suit you if you can’t spell craik.

We didn’t stay here just came for the pub and great music. We were refered by a local who played in the band the night we came. It was well worth it and a lot of fun. From 9:30−11 they have traditional irish music and then from 11;30−2 they have irish rock. This is really just «pop/​american radio music» with a twist. It is good and worth a visit. Drinks are cheap and talking to the locals and having a blast seems almost guaranteed.
I’m not sure what the «pony» reviewer did but this place couldn’t be more friendly.

many amazing times were at the grand!!! such a fuuuuuuuuun place!!! love tuesdays when they have a band (deuces wild, they are awesome!) front is the pub area, also where the band plays. in the back they have the DJ and dance floor! good priced drinks! o how i love the grand!!! :)

This place has it all! It has traditional Irish music from 8 – 11 pm every night and then there is a band and in the back a night club! Great for those seeking fun.
I have to wonder what Pony C. did while in The Grand. I am an American and everyone, staff and locals, was inviting, pleasant and friendly.
If I had gone to The Grand before my last night and not had an early am train to Dublin, I would have loved staying late into the night and dancing into the wee hours!

If you aren’t a local — stay away. The DJ will threaten you will bodily harm in a xenophobic rage if you happen to be American. Really, really disappointing.
