We have never been so happy to see a café open its doors as when we arrived, exhausted and starving, to Enniskerry. Trying to do the right thing and stay up on our first day in Europe, we had miscalculated and had several hours to kill between our plane’s arrival and the first stop on our itinerary. Breakfast, please! We sat down outside Poppies and stared longingly at the tempting array of baked goods inside, willing 8:00 to arrive. Once they opened, we were even more charmed by the interior: homey, warm, bright and, yes, adorned with a red poppy motif. We sat gratefully, warmed ourselves with hot tea and then enjoyed fresh eggs, «bacon»(Irish bacon is more like ham, but delicious) and sausages alongside a glorious introduction to creamy Irish butter and moist, chewy soda bread. Our server was kind, funny, personable, and very attentive — even more impressive in light of all the mediocre service we experienced later on the trip. We watched as an older gentleman entered and she brought him coffee and a scone without his even asking for it – clearly the locals, too, know what kind of a gem this place is. If our travels ever bring us back to Wicklow, we will return to Poppies for sure!

Granted we only came here for dessert. The rhubarb pie was terrible. It was a very deathly grey color and kind of tasted like artichokes *sad face* I’m guessing this was just a fluke because of the other positive Unilocal reviews. I would have given in 1 star but it did have great ambiance. Also not much vegetarian food.

Irish comfort food at its finest! This little quaint and poppy themed restaurant/café has the best pies! They offer huge portions of food alongside delicious salads and soups that are freshly prepared. They also carry superb coffee and desserts. You can definitely taste the quality and love they put into their food. Keep up the great work Poppies!

I discover it accidentally. I am happy that it happens as I could taste a yummy jam. The place is not too big and not too small. The stuff is friendly and make you feel welcome.

Poppies was very cozy. Tables are packed in and intimate. Dishes are in the display case and you pick for them to heat it up. Choices of creamy Poppies chicken, this was a warm chicken salad. Beef lasagna, quiches, Mac and cheese. Served with side of coleslaw and potato salad all for 10 €. I didn’t try desserts there were several pies, fools, etc. very friendly staff.

I had a delicious breakfast here a while back, such good quality fresh food! It was so so tasty! I think I got the Irish breakfast and I can still remember that gorgeous smell and taste of the food! Especially the sosages! they were something else! In a great little location aswell! It’s the perfect place to grab brunch after a walk around powerscourt or after some golf! Really fills your stomach! Price is also cheap aswell, especially for the quality of food you are given! Superb place altogether ! Definite deserving 5 stars

What a great little place, we were staying down the road at The Powerscourt Hotel and really had no interest in spending 20 euros a day for breakfast. The food at Poppies was wonderful and the staff made you feel like a regular. Cant wait for my next trip to Ireland so. I can enjoy this Poppies again.

Great pies … and they sell them for«take-away» too. This is a great place to eat after a brisk walk around the Wicklow Mountains. I always find an excuse to drive through Enniskerry on my way home and stop here. Their chicken pie is world famous !!!

This is as good as it gets. We went there for lunch and ended up going back the next day for lunch. The Chicken and Mushroom pie was outstanding — flakey crust, flavorful and filling. The kids got the mac and cheese — I know, I know mac and cheese — this was the absolute best mac and cheese I have ever eaten. Even the desserts were wonderful — I had a rice krispie treat — and it was better than any I have ever had in the states. Every dessert looked delicious. The owner even came over and talked to us — great guy — the kids thought it was neat that the owner was there and stopped to talk to them — my son even asked for the mac and cheese recipe. Do yourself a favor and give it a try! You will walk out satisfied.

Great place to get a scone and coffee for breakfast. Other foods looked delicious but we didn’t try them. Locals go there to hang out and talk.

I only had coffee there twice, but both times it was quite good. Also tried their quiche to go… really tasty… and the handsome man behind the counter was VERY friendly, with loads of personality. Nice little place for a bite in Enniskerry.

After checking in at the Ritz Carlton, we decided to get our first meal at Poppies. The restaurant is small but cozy and filled with locals who are very friendly. We had two main meals and the side was a sampling of all the salads they offer which were delicious! The desserts in the restaurant looked amazing too but we were too full to try them. A definite yes if you’re deciding to try Poppies!

This is a beautiful and cosy café in Enniskerry. The portions are big and the coffee is served in a proper coffee mug :-)) I had the chocolate cake and must say I was disappointed. The cake was undercooked and dense. The icing was just divine and I ended up leaving half the cake on the plate :-( Will give this place another go before deciding if we come back here or not.

I can’t stress how much I love this place! I live in Dublin City, but that doesn’t stop me from driving about 20 minutes every two weeks with the girlfriend up to enniskerry, just for the poppies chicken! I mean, who would have thought cornflakes in a chicken dish would be so incredible? It is around € 10 for the main meals, and you have a choice of a generous side salad or a baked potato. The only thing is that it’s so far away from me, and it can get pretty busy on weekends with the wicklow walkers. I recommend the Poppies Chicken, and the Summer Berry crumble!

Great spot for lunch. Quiches, pies, and paninis are well made with fresh ingredients. Salads are light and flavorful. You can get traditional dishes or updated fare, and it’s all yummy. Save room for dessert – Poppies is known for its raspberry crumble, and it does not disappoint.

We arrived in Ireland after an overnight flight from Chicago. Got in the rental car to head to Waterford for our 1st night. My wife said she wanted to go to Powerscourt on the way down there. We passed the exit and turned around to go back and it was such a beautiful drive from the highway to Enniskerry and quite surprising to make a left to the sign pointing the way to Powerscourt and finding the cutest town square. We were hungry so stopped to eat somewhere. Poppies stuck out as a very nice breakfast place, walked in and it only looked like a bakery. Almost walked out like the previous poster until the really sweet young girl told us we can sit around the side there and they had a menu with quite a big offering of breakfasts. The food was very very good and if we weren’t in a hurry to get to Waterford and some other 1st sites, we might have stayed in the lovely town. Funny story, We got home on Mar 12th and just rented the movie«Leap Year» and in one sceen the star is seen walking out of this restaurant with two cups of coffee. A place worth seeing.

When I first walked by this spot, I dismissed it as too small and funky. But when I went back to Enniskerry a week later, I took a stab at it as one of the non-pub places to grab lunch while waiting for the bus. I was pleasantly suprised to find that, in spite of appearances, there is a good bit of room toward the back. It feels like a cozy little farmhouse cellar, with low ceilings and walls filled with Mason jars for canning and their own brand of preserves(yeah, I know it’s corporate, but it works). The food was decent, and the soup and pannini combo was a good value at 8.50. If there was one drawback, it’s that it gets a little crowded, and because tables are close together it’s almost like dining family style. I don’t have a problem with that, but others might. Bottom Line: Don’t be frightened, go on in, it ISN’Tskerry…(see what I did there??)
