I was there last Monday for the second time and the last time. No pizza on the menu. «Carlucco says there is too much pizza in the area». OK. Had bruschetta and Chicken Milanese to follow. Cold ungarlic-slicked bread, over-refrigerated tomatoes, no olive oil and worst of all, no basil. Awful. The Milanese was burnt and obviously frozen chicken. Parmesan is rationed with the waitress sprinkling over my undressed salad leaves a soupçon of(processed) cheese. An absolute joke with product placement being the over-riding concern. The food is muck.

So finally I go to try their food — I can’t review their restaurant itself as I used to get dinner delivered. I went for their Insalata di mozzarella as a starter, Linguine al frutti di mare as main and Formaggio for dessert. I half expected I wouldn’t be able to finish all that but I couldn’t resist and the Formaggio should be still excellent tomorrow. I wasn’t too impressed by the insalata but I think that was just down to me not having had it that way before, it was just too salty for my taste. The Linguini were excellent and the same goes for the formaggio with truffle honey. I don’t think there was any loss in taste due to the fact that it got delivered so I’m well impressed.

I was so excited when I saw that a new place was opening in Glasthule, however Carluccio’s just didn’t do it for me. I’ll start with the good. The goats cheese starter was nice, although a bit small. The service was very friendly, especially from the manager. The mains however were just not good. We both had the Italian sausage pasta and found it to be quite bland. The sauce was not flavourful and the sausage was nearly non existent. Im aware that carluccios is a chain and the food reflected that– it just seemed manufactured. But we both had the same thing so maybe other mains are better. I also didn’t like how extra items like side salads, bread and olives seemed to be pushed on us. I might try out some of the bakery items but I don’t think I’ll be back in for a meal.

Yay, Carluccio’s is coming to Glasthule. This busy little village already has a good selection of restaurants and this will only help to increase traffic for local businesses nearby. This is a solid restaraunt chain and each shop is staffed by friendly efficient and authentic Italian character.
