I really can’t fault this place! Been here for many a gig over the years and for other events like Tarantino movie nights or other features done by prominent directors. The sugar club is essentially a cinema/club/bar/insane chill out spot. With the old style jazz club feel to the venue I find it is a place that allows you to get up close and personal with acts. It has a very limited capacity but this adds to the ambiance and atmosphere that are so closely associated with the VIP feel you get from being part of the crowd. The smoking area is newly renovated, toilets are always clean, crowds here are also usually very nice and I’ve never seen any trouble. Furthermore the staff are always friendly and there are superb drink deals which change frequently. These might include Bacardi oak heart with a splash(€ 5 and pretty potent) or even a Cuba libre for the same price(once again not mean with the booze to Coke ratio). All in all a great place for any type of event!

Film Fatale — one of the best nights out you can have in Dublin. — Get dressed up in fancy dress(and everyone makes an effort) — Get to watch a vintage movie(choice of a variety of decades) — Live band performance after the film — Fun music and dancing after(in a busy but not too packed space) What more could you want?

The Sugar Club, a night club that also likes to host movie nights as well as drinks/cocktails. I came here to watch Inglorious Basterds during their Quentin Tarantino month and I have to say I had one of the best nights in town here. Their movie themes are not only top notch, but it’s the best first date/girl’s night/hang-out ever. I love the complementary popcorn and friendly barstaff. They serve beer/cocktails/wine in the back for an affordable price. Wine + popcorn + Nazis? How could one complain? For € 10, it’s worth the price – trust me. TIP: Come early for films to get the good seats!

If variety is the spice of life then this place sure makes for a good sprinkle. I’ve been here for movie screenings with talks/fancy dress & some live bands. There’s always a really cool crowd that give the place a nice atmosphere. Ticket prices are usually € 10-€ 15 which are totally worth it. There’s plenty of seating(which makes sense for a cinema but is another level of groovy when the place turns into a club) and they have a pretty rad smoking area. You wish the place was a little bigger and it can feel a little cheap in places, also they make up for their low ticket prices with pretty expensive drinks. There’s limited food options(only pizza if I recall) and it would be cool if they branched out into nachos etc. especially for watching movies. In saying that, it’s usually a unique experience getting drunk with a lot of people watching an 80’s movie before dancing away the night with them. More nightlife experiments like this in Dublin please! In short: A different flavour to your usual night out/movie night. Groovy crowd & atmosphere make up for any shortfalls.

What a cool venue! My Brazilian housemates took me here to watch the opening brazil match for the world cup and was surprised to find it an old school auditorium/cinema. There were red padded chairs with tables in groups with a massive projector screen. It was packed already and pretty sure 99% were Brazilians. Deals were on — pitchers 10 €, Brazilian BBQ3 €. Was really great value. The outdoor area is massive(and where they had the BBQ). Fortunately it was sunny, but if raining, there is no cover outside. Limited number of seats inside would be the only downer for anyone arriving somewhat later than everyone, so you end up standing with nowhere to put your drinks, as there are no counters or anything. But overall was really great venue — not sure if its always like this

Sorta like burlesques spiritual home in dublin, I’m here on a far more regular basis than most. I love the venue, great events and old world charm, with pizzas for sale till midnight. Delicious cheese soaked goodness for € 7, without these I reckon I’d be 10 lbs lighter but not half as happy trotting in here for an evenings entertainment. Why only 3 star? Service. There are fantastic staff in the main, but a couple of bad apples spoil the bunch, and are so rude and unpleasant as to result in docking 2 whole stars. Being sworn at by a barmaid??? Not something one can let slide! Even after complaining — something I discovered several friends had done in the past, she is still there. Surely a number of complaints would see someone let go, and earn the venue back a few stars?!?

This is a pretty cool little spot. A theatre come club come cinema come bar. It looks cool on the outside and it doesn’t disappoint on the inside. Previous reviewers have commented on the shell-shaped seating around tables which are really nice. It gives you that feeling of being in a jazz club in a black & white movie. It’s comfortable, intimate, and well, a little bit special. Probably my favourite element of the Sugar Club though is their varied programming. On any given week, they will have anything from burlesque to hiphop to an 80s classic or live band. Some downsides too — the toilets are pretty average — it would be cool to see something a bit more plush to go with the general vibe of the place. In line with this — the price of drinks. If I’m paying this much for drinks, I want to be somewhere ultra fecking plush. OR(preferably!), I’d prefer NOT to pay so much for a drink. I believe my Jameson & coke cost me in the region of eight euro the other day. And was poured into a plastic cup. No people, just, no!

I’d not been to The Sugar Club in years when I made it back for a Burlesque fundraiser. It was a great night too. I love the theatre styled seats with tables, makes for excellent intimate gigs with friends. I would definitely recommend a visit here to everyone who has not been. The staff were fine and the toilets clean(yay). Drinks prices your average for Dublin.

I went here for the Offset screening of «Urbanized». A documentary by Gary Hushwit and he was there afterwards to take questions which was a great treat. A really great venue to watch a film, it’s a great intimate venue in general. My only issue is that they didn’t have Guinness on tap, «No gas, I’m afraid.» Seriously! That’s pretty lame, why not switch the gas from a different keg. My friend was more skeptical as an ex bartender, «Well Guinness is the cheapest option.» € 5.25 for a pint of Hoegarden — are you having a laugh?! Wise up folks, it isn’t party good times anymore. So star drop for redonkulous drinks pricing.

We loved this place when we went to see the Anti-Valentine’s Day production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Lush seating, roomy tables, decent drink prices(buy your cocktails by the jug to save time AND money), and a great spirit of fun. In addition to a great RHPS Cast, the fire-jugglers outside really made the night AWESOME! Bottom Line: Have a drink, have three, put your arm around a stranger…

Setting-wise, this is one of the nicest clubs in town. I can especially recommend it for concerts, when you can fully avail of their table-service and cinema-type seating. Depending on the night and featured party it can range from brilliant to desastrous. Especially the bouncers can be described as «trigger-happy» sometimes — but maybe I just had 3 bad nights in a row here.

I really like the Sugar Club as a venue; it’s cozy, warm, and has a close-knit type of atmosphere. They are host to lots of interesting, underground and indie bands and the acoustics are brilliant for such a small place. You get to sit down comfortably, have a drink and relax as you enjoy your time in the place. Prices for drinks are so so reasonable and something is always on offer — try the Chocolate Martinis, mmmm, self-explanatory goodness.

Laid out like an opulent cinema, with tiered velvet banquette seating, the Sugar Club plays host all sorts, including comedy, music, film, theatre, burlesque and cabaret. It also does plain old DJ and dancing sets but watch out if you are shaking it down the front. You will have become the act for the evening, so make it good. For those who just like to watch, head to the bar at the back, where a range of imaginative cocktails is available.

A great night out is to be had in this place. Pretty much like walking into a cinema, the sugar club is a fantastic venue for everything from cinema and theatre to live music and dancing. The seating is tiered and every seat has a table. the bar located at the back is spacious and even on busy nights you can easily squeeze a spot to order a drink. As a performer i must say that the atmosphere and sound in this venue is next to perfect. There is a great buzz for live shows, and most nights go well into the late hours with DJs and live bands encouraging drunken revelers up onto the dance floor. There is a little VIP area with a window in it for the lucky few and the toilets are top notch(they even pipe the music into the toilets if you feel like having a sneaky dance while taking a whizz… careful though!) Oh and the in house sound guy here, if he is still the same guy… is very cool!

I love the sugar club! It’s just a bit of a different form of nightclub. Organised more like a cinema than a club, which is not that surprising for a former cinema, there’s tiered seating around tables which face towards the stage and dance floor area. As a result there’s more seating than most nightclubs which makes it a comfortable place to start a night as well as end it. At the back of this there’s a bar and then another separate bar area. All the usual drinks are here but so too is a great cocktail menu. Not only is the décor different but the line up is different too. The sugar club often host different acts, shows, DJs and bands. I’ve been to some great and very different nights there, including a halloween night with Evil Dead playing on the big screen behind the stage while we danced to the Monster Mash, Burlesque nights with the Tassel Club, and band showcases. Often before a DJ set the Sugar Club will have one of their great regular bands who might play Jazz or Salsa music which is accessible enough for anyone to enjoy. Entry is usually 10 or 15 euro, but you generally feel you get bang for your buck because you’ll usually catch a couple of acts while you’re there. Strictly Handbag on Friday currently has a 2 for 1 entry before midnight deal. The crowd at the Sugar Club is a little bit older than a lot of nightclubs — usually 25 plus — you know mostly over that tipping point age where you start to feel comfort is important on a night out! The décor makes you feel awfully civilised but it inevitably degenerates to having the craic on the dancefloor after a few cocktails!

The Sugar Club is one of my favourite places to see bands play but bands I like never seem to play here. The club is laid out quite uniquely with a sort of tiered seating design. But each level of seats has couch seats and tables so it almost feels like a New York jazz club or a mini theatre. The acoustics are amazing with wooden ceilings and floors and red velvet carpet. This gives a very warm and cosy atmosphere. They also serve Murpheys on tap which is something thats rare around Dublin.

Good nights happen in the Sugar Club. They put on great bands(Lykke Li, quirky new Scandinavian indie-popper recently played there) and the atmosphere is artsy, yet not pretentious. They have a smoking area in the back and while prices are reasonable for Dublin club prices, the entrance fees can be a bit hefty. I’d still recommend this place over other Leeson Street nighttime haunts though.

Plush, cosy and theatrical, the Sugar Club is the perfect place for intimate gigs. The club is laid out like a theater or cinema, with spacious rows of cushiony seats and tables. There’s an extensive menu with some great cocktails. It’s an ideal place to see a gig — especially if you’re too old for sticky tables and mosh pits — sugar club attracts a more sophisticated clientele.
