Enjoy this pub overall. Good for a local in Phibsboro area. Had food here few times and overall the food is consistent pub food(nice steak this evening). Unfortunately the service has also been consistent but on the negative. The wait staff have a great skill of avoiding eye contact and you have to be nearly waving in front of them to get them to come over to take orders etc. Lots of conversations amongst themselves and while they do check in on table during meal but once you might need something else catching their eye is near impossible. It is a shame.

Brilliant spot on a sunny day. Burger and pint deal Monday to Wednesday for € 13 and wings and a pint for € 8: great value and very tasty.

3.5 stars really… A long, long time ago, but I can still remember, I used to live in the phibsboro area and I frequented the Porterhouse North at least once a month. I had not been back in well over 5 years… until today. And it’s still pretty much the same… some things just never seem to change… which in Porterhouse’s case isn’t a bad thing. Its an institution after all. They have a lot of outdoor seating. A very extensive menu, mainly wings, burgers and pizza’s. And an even larger drinks menu, pretty much the same as any other Porterhouse around. Their deals are pretty good. Midweek deals: 13 euro for burger + pint, cocktails at a reduced price(5 euro only on thursday!) etc. I opted for the goats cheese + walnut salad… I was pretty ravenous and devoured it in record speed, realising near my almost last mouthful, that there was no walnut in sight. MEH! Also service was pretty slow, although it was not busy at all. This Porterhouse will always remain my favourite one of all four(?) locations in & around Dublin… but is it worth the track?.. not sure.

The pulled pork sandwich was really good. The fries and cole slaw also very good. The mojito… I’ve had better. But the space is very neat and the staff very friendly. My main complaint is that it’s loud. I know Unilocal says it’s very loud but it is VERY loud I’d expect this out of a club where dancing is the main event but that’s not the case here. I’d like to hear myself think.

I went on a Sunday afternoon, so not the best time to judge whether this location of the Porterhouse chain has as good a vibe as the others. Unfortunately, service was slow enough and it took forever to get our bill. In a half-empty pub. But I liked the feel of the place and the possibilities for a night out, if I were at that location again and on the right day.

After a refuelling stop in the Golden Chip, it was time to revisit the Porterhouse North after a break of 2 years. For some reason I always associate this place with a great outdoor space which I’ve only ever visited on Baltic evenings, and tonight was no different. Odd to see the additions of Guinness and Heineken to the taps, but most definitely welcome in the case of the former. Overall a good spot for a drink, friendly staff, and surprisingly reasonably priced. Maybe I’ve just been away too long. One tip: please turn up the heating, especially on the way to the men’s toilets.

Quicky one. Great pub. Has everything you would want on a Saturday night. Well, male readers can exclude«that» wish, if ya know what I mean ;) Food is great. I believe it’s being served till 10 pm. The Chili Cheese Burger was fantastishion! Garlic bread also great. Came in a small nice bucket in a pizza style slices. Loved it. Too many beers to try. That said, don’t try Trouble Brewing Sabotage India Pale Ale. It was terrible. Tasted like whiskey mixed with brandy. Pub is big. Dance floor is to your disposal. Atmosphere is nice. People are great. Staff is shuperhhh! Doormen are polite. Plenty of TVs around for sports addicts.

In my opinion this place is extremely average. Cocktails are great, but not a lot of alcohol in them for € 8 each. Starters are always quite good, we had nachos & wings to start & for mains I had fajitas & my other half had lasagne. Mains were very average. Minimal flavour, lots of veggies(slightly overdone), just like any other pub really. It’s handy for us because we live close so will always be a go to when we’re stuck for somewhere to eat. Also make sure you’re there well in advance of 8pm as that’s when the dj comes on which means the end of any conversation you were having over your food!

Part of the Porterhouse franchise housed it what was once a car dealership. Which is a bit deceiving as you approach. Exterior — simple minimalist. Interior — traditional pub, copper pipes and all. Get over this schizophrenic aspect and it’s quite a nice place. A wide and diverse range of alcohol. There are screens and sporting paraphrenalia around too. It has a nice vibe, indie tunes playing inthe bakground and hip youngsters in the bar. The night I was there there was no security on the door. This contributed to my catch up with my Dad being marred by an old boy next us roaring about the IRA. Staff were slow to deal with him. A nice venue otherwise.

Excellent beers, that’s for sure! What a range of foreign brands, just super! During the evenings, especially on a Saturday night it can get(very) crowded though. We had the luck to join in on a hen night… OMG… Fun, and very noisy!

If it wasn’t for the location, this might be one of the better porterhouse bars. The location does let it down for a couple of reasons. Firstly and most importantly for me, I don’t live in Glasnevin/Phibsborough and either is there a direct public transport option from Blanchardstown to here and while I can get a bus to Phibsborough and walk or a train to Drumcondra and walk(longer), it means I am limited to this porterhouse rather than all the other good pubs in the city centre which is where I tend to go. That for me makes this a local pub for people in the locality. That said, I wish it was my local! Secondly, and this is only minor, being so far away from the city centre, they have(like Bray) started serving Macro beers as well as their own(pointless to me) and even took away the cask engine which is a real shame. If W.J. Kavanagh can open on Dorset street(not too far away) with 5 cask engines then surely an established craft beer pub like this can have one. I don’t blame them though as it again comes down to location. I love how spacious it is, the beer garden is one of the best in the city. Like other porterhouse bars, the food is plenty and delicious and way above the standard pub grub. I will have to make it a point to head in there again soon as despite some obvious shortcomings, if you take it on its own merits then this is a wonderful pub and one I would be proud to call my local.

i went in there on monday evening and it was so nice and relaxing and they had some excellent deals on cocktails. they do a delicious piña colada and i think its so hard to find a decent one of these in dublin. the food is pretty good too, they changed the menu recently and its very good value. its not a place for dancing or partying but definitely a good place to go if hanging out locally and you can always move onto mcgowans or the botanic house, both within walking distance and good if you don’t want to head into town.

The food menu/setup has changed in this Porterhouse. They now run a restaurant on the second floor from 5pm onwards. This means you have more of a restaurant feel to the food you get up there but also means the food menu downstairs has been cut down and modified. They got rid of most of the burgers(Booo!), added ‘sliders’ though, but this was modified withing a few weeks to give you one or two more burger selections. The menu upstairs looked good but we haven’t got around to eating up there yet.

This pub is a great place to go and wet the whistle before you head into town on the weekend. the last time i was there they had a band on a friday night. they were excellent, playing all the up to date music and did a great version of kings of leon, sex on fire. it is a nice and relaxing atmosphere in the place and it is also great for watching sport as they have a big screen. Another great highlight of this bar is the big beer garden at the back of it. on a nice sunny day it is nice to sit outside trying all sorts of different Porterhouse beers. they even have an extensive cocktail menu which i can only review to page 2 as we did a cocktail challange one night to try drink one of each cocktail on the menu. but unfortunately i don’t think we made it past page 2 before we had to surrender! They also serve food until late in the evening, i cannot be sure of the time that they serve the food because the night we were there drinking the cocktails my watch seemed to have 8 hands :) overall i would give this pub a big thumbs up!

I used to live in here during the summer months, and as a student on Wednesday nights… How the mighty have fallen! From a place I thought would be a kip when it opened but turned into a Gem. Recently there has been notable changes. The bouncers were once great here. I never had a problem. People that needed to be turned away were, myself once not being dressed in to regulations,(proper order!) no so anymore,. Recently i see no regulations on the door in comparison to the porterhouse parliament st bouncers, which has no trouble or underages, it is pristine. I’m seeing fights in here now, no over 21 rule any more and some of the most unfriendly bar staff I’ve ever met. This is a major shame as i adored this this place, it was the only place in the glassnevin/drumcondra area not overtaken with locked kids up to the ‘big smoke’ for college on Wednesday-Saturday nights(Quinns & McGowens) or that is not full of Dinosaurs. The food is good, very good in fact. i would recommend anything because the full menu is spot on, the only let down is the menu doesn’t change often enough, and when it does it is not exactly a totally revamp. Food price is not cheap but not over the top, also portions are not small! The beer list will give any beer snob a wet dream, granted no bud, heneken, guinnes or that stuff(bottles of bulmers yes) but is that really a bad thing? During the day, you can’t ignore this place, excellent. On a busy night, maybe grab a taxi to porterhouse parliament street instead(avoid porterhouse Grafton st.)

Beside Cross Guns bridge on the north side of Phibsboro, the Porterhouse North stocks the same vast range of beers as its sister in Temple Bar(and serves a mind-boggling range of food). Its large beer garden gets good sun, even if it is partly covered. It’s a handy watering hole for Croke Park-bound folk, or for those who find nearby Fagan’s too clogged.

I’m a big fan of this bar and when I lived in Glasnevin, I used to come here a lot. There’s a great choice of beers and the food is really nice so it’s a good place to start off on a Saturday evening. As it’s a micro-brewery, you can’t get pints of Guinness or Heineken in here. So if you’re partial to these drinks and don’t like to try something new, then this place wont be for you. I love Australian beers and this place serves tooheys, carlton and james boags amongst others. The food is also really nice, with great pizzas, burgers and a delicious Irish stew on offer. On a fine summers day, the beer garden out the back is a great spot to relax with some friends. I’m still undecided if it’s a good place to watch sporting events. The layout of the bar means that you have to really get a spot on the right hand side of the bar to be able to view one of the many flat screen tvs. These spots fill up pretty quickly so there’s usually a congregation of people standing in front of the giant projector screen by the front door. This can be pretty awkward, especially if there’s a big Leinster or Ireland rugby game on at the nearby Croke Park. Plus, even though there’s two framed Dublin and Kerry GAA jerseys right inside the front door, the bar doesn’t seem too GAA friendly. One sunday lunchtime when it was really quiet, I asked for a football game to be put on one of the tvs but the staff didn’t bother. Which I found particularly annoying. There’s also a paid car park across the street beside the Brian Boru. pub.

I came here for some drinks with a friend and as soon as I walked in the bar I smelled amazing food! I really wanted to order something but being a student on a buget(again…) I had to keep it to an order of chips and a pint. If anyone from the states reads this, The Porterhouse is comparable to The Yardhouse I saw many amazing dishes pass by my table and my mouth was watering! After looking at the prices on the menu and then the quantities that came out I would definitely come here and spring for a dinner and a pint. I saw many happy groups being served so if there are happy customers I’m bound to come back!

The first time I went to the Porterhouse I was instantly a huge fan. I absolutely love bars that care very deeply about the brews they sell, which is why a bar that sells only it’s own micro-brewed beer is pretty cool. You won’t find any cheap crap beers here, no Coors Light in sight, and thank god for that. The Porterhouse’s menu of beers is varied; they offer a stout, a red ale, a wheat beer, a chocolate stout and more. Each beer is described in detail, from its color to its flavor and they all sound mouth-watering, My particular favorite is the Brain Blasta. At 7%, it’s nothing to sneeze at and if you drink one on an empty stomach be prepared for an instant buzz. This particular location is a bit off the beaten track — located a bit out from the city center in Dublin 9. As a result, it is a lot less crowded than the other locations, but also not as exciting. It is a great place to grab lunch, as their food is delicious and inexpensive, or a mid-afternoon beer as they have outdoor seating. If you’re looking to socialize with a lot of people, head to the other locations downtown.

Not many people new to the city know about Porterhouse North, it’s part of the of the famous Porterhouse line of pubs but this one is bigger and more spacious as I find the other ones can get very packed. The interior of the pub is impressive, both upstairs and downstairs is spacious and bright. It’s always fun to drink inside a ‘brewery’.The beer garden is beautifully designed and the windows open out over the canal. There are plenty of TV screens for watching sports, and it is a great venue to do so. The beer list is impressive, I am a big fan of their Oyster stout but you can try from their samplers to figure out your favourite tipple. Their lunch menu if extremely reasonable, I had a quiche and salad for under € 4, you really can’t fault that. The bartender was extremely helpful with our orders and advising us on drink choices. It’s a great spot anytime of the day and it won’t break the bank.
