Wouldn’t call myself a wings man per say, but I sure as hell would call myself a canal bank café wings man. Place looks fine on the inside, I think, I don’t really remember if I’m being honest. Any memories I had of the upholstery or interior of this place have been replaced with memories of dem Wingz. If you’re going here, go with a group of people who aren’t going to judge you, I felt like I had just gotten in a fight with a basket of chicken wings by the end of it. Oh wait, that’s exactly what happened. If you like said wings then come along, on an empty stomach of course. If you don’t like wings, they do a decent burger and a great rack of ribs.

Just finished a serious bowl of Mussels and Clams in the Canal Bank. First time here and will definitely be coming back.

Nice place to stop by for a casual coffee and snacks or a full dinner. This is something of a high end café with friendly professional service and a full kitchen. I ordered a soup and salad as I wasn’t particularly hungry but both came out great. I also had a bite of the steak that another in my party had ordered and it had a high quality great taste to it. This is definitely a great place to stop for dinner — but there’s a lot of competition in this area with a lot of nice quality restaurants. You can’t go wrong!

Perfectly nice stop for cappuccino and some crispy fries for a mid-afternoon snack. Nice and light with plenty of tables by the windows. Since we weren’t looking for a meal, I didn’t take much of a look at the menu.

Best wings ever — lovely atmosphere. Also do wings to take away.

Great food and service, they don’t open until 11 which I found strange. Would definitely recommend it for brunch, great menu especially ‘sweets’, huevo rancheros are a scam though, essentially a breakfast burrito. Has a great layout too with a large area in of couch type seats for groups and tables for couples. Apparently the bathrooms are nice too

I went to canal bank café for dinner on 29 May 2013(so 1 year ago) and I wrote this review back then for my blog juleslovesfood so I thought I would put it up on Unilocal now. I have not been back again to Canal Bank Café. Being Italian I do a a somewhat high standard for pasta so perhaps I made the wrong choice in what I ordered. I had sausage linguine with peas and spinach. There was honestly so much oil I had to decant it into a separate bowl. Sausages are, in themselves, quite oily so I am not sure why the chef added so much extra oil. My one friend had the hake which she said was delicious, the other ordered the chicken breast which was great but again the veg were very oily. Perhaps I will go back and give it another chance but I will try other places before I go back there. Very cute location though.

Canal Bank Café is one of those places that I have passed so many times but for some reason never gave it much thought. Well Friday night we tried to «stop in» Forest Avenue(rookie mistake) and were forced to seek food refuge in the nearby Café. Pretty plain inside but many of the tables were full and there were great smells coming from the kitchen. We took our seats and quickly settled on a bottle of cabernet and the goats cheese and ham starter. The wine wasn’t too great but it was somewhat cheap so I probably shouldn’t complain. The starter was decent — chunks of goat cheese, serrano ham, arugala, sundried tomatoes and a vinaigrette. For mains J went with the pasta special of the day and I went with the roast chicken breast. After a brief wait the food arrived and we were very surprised with the presentation — really lovely. J’s pasta was some kind of linguini with pesto and parmesan which he thought was really tasty. However, I think my chicken with the winner. There was a spinach and cumin spiced potato mixture topped with some kind of nut crumbs, a few dollops of cream and a generous piece of chicken. The potato mixture had wonderful flavours and the chicken was melt in your mouth. Everything went so well together and I found myself forgetting how to share. Will come back soon.

Great little spot for breakfast… plenty of attractive choices, but leave room for it as portions are massive!!! Also, it is one of the favorites for families on a Sunday, so make sure you arrive nice and early if you dont wanna hang around waiting

Nice place, had brunch here today with a friend! She got the eggs Benedict which looked amazing! I went for the omelette. Huge portions! Great value for money. We were stuffed! Service was good, staff were pleasant. Lacks something and I’m not quite sure what it is. I liked it. I just didn’t love it! My first time here, my companion goes regularly. Cannot fault the food just not a very atmospheric venue!

Overall this was a nice little place that we sort of fell into looking for dinner near our hotel. Its fairly small with a bistro kind of feel. I had a cheeseburger which was decent, service was good.

I stopped in here with a friend after watching a football match at Obriens across the street. The atmosphere of the place was really nice — really light and airy, which was a nice change from sitting in the pub. I was actually surprised at how light the atmosphere was! The food was also very good — my friend got the Caesar Salad, and the chicken was really tasty. I had the hamburger, and it was very good also. But, at the end of the day, it was definitely the atmosphere that makes this place great.

For my first meal in Dublin, it set the bar high – brunch was offered late(my favorite), with tons of wonderful looking options. Then the food came and it was fantastic — flavorful and filling. As an added bonus, free wifi. Nice touch!

I’ve only been here once so I can’t really give it more stars — just yet — but I’m thrilled to have found a new(to me) brunch place with so much potential. The menu is one of the best I’ve seen. Lots of choice. I had the Huevos Rancheros, which to my mind are exactly like(delicious) vegetarian soft-flour tortillas. My friend had the Chicken Club Sandwich and it looked very good — the skinny fries looking especially tasty. She normally never finishes chips and I get her leftovers but not this time! The portion size of both dishes was more than decent. The brunch menu I’m told starts at 11.30am on a Sunday and I would recommend getting in there relatively early because by mid-afternoon, it was getting very crowded and noisy. Up to that point, however, it seemed to me an ideal place to relax and nurse a hangover or just plain old exhaustion. They also have a range of hair-of-the-dogs, including Bloody Marys and Bellinis.

Beyond the location and interior, there is very little that differentiates the Canal Bank from Tribeca. Granted the menu looks different on paper but it’s the same standard of ‘not amazing’, ‘not the worst in the world’ Mediterranean dishes. The fact that the main draw here is their chicken wings ain’t saying much. That being said, it’s unlikely that you’ll be disappointed, it’s just not a dining experience that’ll stay with you.

If there is one thing on your bucket list it has to be the chicken wings. The rest of the experience was I have to say a little disappointing. Service was meh and we sent back two of our four main courses which they did in fairness take off the bill. Did I mention the Chicken Wings… do it today!

Close to my hotel, walking by one afternoon I decided to drop in. Glad I did. The welcome was warm and genuine, and the place is kinda cute. Nice staff, friendly people. Great hamburger. Really great. Excellent quality provisions, I know because I passed by the next day and saw what was being delivered and it was all fresh and great looking. There aren’t that many places like this in Dublin, come check it out. Enjoy!
