So, I’m gonna be the first one here to write about the Clap Clinic! Well then, get a dose of this! Ha! Sorry, bad joke! The Sexually Transmitted Infections Clinic is run from the GUIDE Hospital or Hospital 5 in St. James. It is a totally free and confidential clinic for the screening, diagnosing and treating of STI’s. It is one of only a tiny few places that offers this service for free, so as you can imagine it is always packed and very hard to get seen! It is run every Monday from 9am to 1pm. It is a free clinic so no appointments are needed it is on a first come first served basis. When you arrive in the waiting there are 25 numbered chairs and if you are not on one of the 25 seats then, tough you are not gonna be seen! Once the 25 seats are taken the nurse comes out and gives those lucky people a ticket and the rest are told to go in to the other nurse to have a chat and see if they can book you an appointment for a Friday clinic or if you just have to try again next week. I arrived at 8.30am and all the places where taken, a lady in front of me arrived at 8am and even then all the places were taken! So you have to get there well early if you really need to be seen! But the alternative is paying from 120euro upwards to get seen in a private clinic, so maybe it is worth the early start and long wait! As I have never made it to the clinic on time no matter how early I have been I cannot comment on the service provided!
