Skin Check

I saw Dr. Steve at the North Strand clinic. As of late, a plethora of new skin marks and small moles started appearing all over my body, which made me decide it would be a good time to have them checked.
The full body skin check was very thorough — covering areas like behind the hears, soles of the feet, between toes — and it’s absolutely painless and simple. The whole consultation lasted about 20mins.
Besides reassuring me, Dr. Steve was also very patient and explained everything I asked him, so I could know what to expect and how I should monitor my skin. He is definitely very interested in his patients and in helping them detect and prevent this form of cancer.
The medical service was top-​notch, but the receptionist called me on two separate occasions well before 8am — cue my sleepy voice on the phone — to make changes to my appointment. Also, on the day I was there, said receptionist was nowhere to be found so I had to wait outside in the street for 5mins, before the doctor would come and open up the door, and he also had to take care of the receipt and payment, which was a bit awkward.

Being freckly and pasty white and from australia, well going to the skin cancer doctor becomes more common than going to the dentist or normal GP. So after being 3 years (would never be allowed to get away with it back home) of not going, finally was getting my dreaded-​ness that my eventual skin cancer was now there.
So I managed to find a groupon voucher, which seems to be a regular occurance for 79 euro for a full body check, normally 99. now of course like any medical thing you shouldn’t just go for the cheapest, but Dr. Karagaiannis (or steve) is amazing.
Its actually a new start up-​ish now (fellow aussie that lives here now) and is setting this up because, well, irish people do not understand that the sun is dangerous… i get laughed at wearing sunscreen in summer when outside, so this is a good business to set up and i am sure will become ever more required as the years get on.
But was great, no awkwardness, which can happen, when you get checked over EVERYWHERE and also great he came in early to rathmines at 7.30 am so i could still get to work without having to take time off.
Overall great doc, full check as you would back home, a few locations and flexible which is great, and cheap compared to most of my investigations around dublin. highly recommend and highly encourage the people of ireland to get checked!
NB: only open in rathmines on wednesdays, but they have several locations and open monday to friday
