With Markiewicz Centre on Tara St closed for renovations, I thought I’d try the Sean MacDermott as it’s pretty near me. Wasn’t sure what I would find as there aren’t many reviews of it and the area does have a bit of a rep. Went on a Sunday afternoon and paid 4.50, pretty cheap, it does look a bit grim from the outside. Was lane swimming and only 1 other person in pool so had lane to myself which was great. Facilities are basic but guess it depends what you’re looking for, I thought they were fine. You put your stuff in a basket and hand it in, old school but means it’s safe and no messing with keys etc. Very friendly staff. An underused public amenity right in the city centre.

:-D well, as I’m about to review my local swimming pool, I just remembered another public one that I would never set foot in again.
Ok we know it’s not a prime location, it’s a bit of a rough area but I’ve never felt insecure in there. It just looks horrible inside. I didn’t find it clean… or welcoming. That, with the fact that it was only occupied with kids the 2 times I gave it a go (one in the evening, one in the afternoon, my mistake !)
That said, it’s cheap and located just 10−15min walk from O’Connell.
Just a note as well that they are only open on saturday to the public now.
