I have to agree with Kelly T. This place is dreary. It looks like they paved over a vacant lot and called it a park. In reality it is just a cold, windy concrete slab over which people bustle on their way to work. I can scarcely imagine a more depressing design. Mix in some snow and ice, and this is just an head-cracking death trap.

I once read on a random concrete ball … I suppose it was art? decoration? planning? in this concrete area that this was in fact something developed to celebrate the millenium. Maybe they were expecting Y2K to actually happen and that the world would end so there’s no need to bother with putting much effort into a park. The area is really just a concrete open area with a couple of blocks that could serve as benches in warmer months. It’s a pity because it could be a bit nicer there, there’s a pretty tree and the canal is only feet away. One good thing though is that I at last discovered where the Dublin Bike scheme was hiding the bikes that I thought they had been lying about in Portobello. If you’re looking for them they’re a minutes walk by Portobello College.
