Once in a while I get really bored with my hair and decide to go for a completely different look. My only problem is finding someone who will be able to decipher and bring to life EXACTLY what I want, preferably in the way that works better. Oh, and did I mention I’m really lazy when it comes to looking after it at home? Yeah… so pretty much I need a stylist who knows what they’re doing. My radar for good hairdressers is improving with the years, and after passing by Lunatic Fringe many times, I finally decided to drop in and get an appointment with them. The hostess is a very nice and competent lady, and she really does a good job at making you feel welcome and taken care of. Even though I was ready to pay for one of their most senior stylists, after describing to her what I was looking for she put me up with one of their juniors, Adele, and assured me she was very good. When the day came for my make-over, Adele was an absolute professional! She listened carefully to what I wanted, we looked at some pictures together and she gave me her input before we were both satisfied we were on the same page, and I gave her the go-ahead. She then proceeded to cutting my hair in a very perfectionist and technical manner, and the result was a) EXACTLY what I wanted and b) a really good haircut that’s hassle-free and which everyone compliments me for! She really understood what my hair is like and worked with it. So I couldn’t be happier, I think this was excellent value. I went back a few weeks after that, for a FREE trim — in my case it was just a quick shave, to maintain part of the haircut. Absolutely great customer service from their part. Expect all the other pleasantries that come with a good salon: complimentary tea, a solid booking service with reminders by text, vouchers for friends and occasional promos for clients. I know who I’ll be trusting with my hair again :)

This is my second visit to Lunatic Fringe and I’m delighted with both experiences. My housemate put me on to them after doing a lot of online research for her own cut — which she LOVED. My latest cut was done by Claire and I was really pleased. She took an hour to really take the time over my cut. Claire knows what she’s doing and is really lovely — as are all the staff. The price varies depending on who you get and Claire was 39 euro — a bargain for the level of expertise. I’ll be back and my good friend from Oz is in there right now having a cut and colour.

I had a voucher burning a hole in my pocket for a colour and treatment at the Robert Chambers School of hairdressing and I eventually plucked up the courage to book and I wasn’t disappointed. The instructor was very knowledgeable and discussed options with me in detail. the students were attentive, friendly and I was comfortable that they’d do a good job. I’d recommend using this school as a cheap option as they are very professional in their approach.

A great improvement from the school upstairs. Last year, I had a very poor experience at the school. The student was lousy and the supervisor was too busy to supervise properly. I left with more of a ‘trim’ than a cut, and an uneven one at that. In a mad contrast, Lunatic Fringe was probably the best hairdressing experience I’ve had in Ireland. At a reasonable price, I had my hair styled exactly as I wanted. No attempt to quicken the job using an electric razor or other such nonsense. Denise came highly recommended and has actually won an award. She was very friendly and not-rushed. Even with my poor instructions, she was able to understand what I wanted — as if I was speaking fluent hair-speak.
