This is no longer a rustic store, but instead a large Londis, and I’m eternally grateful for its close proximity. I get lazy, not always, barely even often, but I do. I work, am a single Mum, run my home, have a social life, and sometimes I’m simply not arsed cooking — but refuse to feed El Monkey complete crap. This place is fantastic for getting a bite and not breaking the bank. There is a small subway as well as salad bar and hot and cold food counters where El Monkey(Irelands fussiest eater) can get a very decent sized portion chicken korma with rice for € 5 and I can grab a subway or salad and fresh baked bread for a similar price. And on those days my disinclination to cook is due to the world refusing to yield to my will, there is an excellent wine selection with regular offers. Cheap wine it the tastiest! It is also a very decent food store with all the essentials and some tasty treats too.

This is a kind of an odd store. It’s old-fashioned and shabby but it’s doing a range of ‘fine foods’ now too(hence the name Fine Food Store), which jazzes it up. There’s a great wine shop attached to it too. Having said that, the so-called fine foods are a bit pricey. I got a Greek salad here recently and it was nearly a fiver and honestly I could have made ten of them myself for that price. There wasn’t a whole lot of feta in it — or leaves for that matter. And the dressing was mainly oil. Still, I would imagine people shop here as it’s a bit in the middle of nowhere and attached to a petrol station, which always increases footfall.
