Had a fun night here last thursday. The venue itself is small and intimate and as a few posters already mentioned a little overcrowded. I think aside from that it has great potential. There was a few great acts and a lot of laughs. I admire anyone who is brave enough to get up, will definitly go back.

I was attending few weeks ago in the Jester’s comedy evening. It was good fun, many stands up’s! The minus of the event was that the place was bit packed and we had to stand. Overall, apart of that I had good time

Thanks for hosting this event — overall, we had a good evening. :) There’s a few bumps I think need to be smoothed out — but this is a fairly new comedy club, so it’s only expected that there’s some figuring out to do along the way! I do think that we were well over max capacity — it might be nicer to have a bit more space, perhaps even an aisle put out for people to get drinks(it was a bit distracting sitting in the back row watching people wave for drink orders). Overall I think there’s potential… looking forward to coming back in the future.

Entertaining enough. I liked some of the comedians, some others made me cringe a bit too much, but all in all it wasn’t a bad way of spending a couple of hours with a drink. I know the food was free that night, but it was really bad, sorry!, and the way it was served was so clumsy and rushed. Also, the seating arrangements were not the most comfortable, especially because everybody was mostly crammed and trying to make room for other people.

Something a little different for a Thursday. It would have been better if there had been fewer people or a bigger space. Is there a limit on a regular Thursday night?!? However, once the show started and the cheap shots were thrown, space didn’t seem to matter much. The show itself, consisting of a couple of comedians each side of intermission, was a mix of cringe-worthy one-liners and some hilarious stories. I don’t imagine that everything is to everyone’s taste. So you just have to bare the ones you don’t like to get to the good ones?! To each his own, eh. There is a lot of opportunity, though, to hear some potential every Thursday night. You never know-he/she could be the next Robin Williams?!?

I’m new to comedy nights myself, hearing from some of my friends who go regularly that they can be very hit and miss… but i was compelled to check this one out as a first time. O’ Donoghues is a good rustic, intimate venue, but the overcrowding was a bit of a problem as i was left crushed into the corner. I know that the promoters are keen to get the word out to as many people as possible, but they could have cut the number down by 6 – 8 people. Also, from the point of view of the comedians, i did feel that they were getting the dirty end of the rag because they were all crowded together on the stairs for all to see waiting to come on and do their act on front of a non-paying, relatively sober, international and fairly quiet crowd… so tough gig for anyone. Saying that, there were plenty of loud laughs to keep most people in good spirits, but there were long periods where only a collection of polite giggles could be heard. I’m not gonna single any comedians out, because fair play to them for waiting around on a stairs for over 2 hours and then getting up there and doing their thing, and i certainly couldn’t and wouldn’t ever do it, but when the material drifts into, «i hate my kids», «those ISIS lads are alright» «i f***k prostitutes» and the like… i think its time to get back to the drawing board and rethink how to make those jokes funny. Not that they were offensive, they were just very cringe(expect for the«panda killing their young is why they are the symbol of China» joke, which was funny… because people laughed!) Saying that, you gotta take the hits with the misses on a night out like this, and with a few more drinks in me and a slightly smaller crowd, i’d definitely pay to go again to the Jester’s Comedy Club!

Not a bad night out for a Thursday! Set up could do with a bit of reworking — if you got there early enough you get to sit at a comfy table and enjoy the comedy with a nice cold pint, otherwise you’ll end up sitting in the back in an endless row of chairs kinda squished, but then I was there on a special event night so maybe that is an unusual experience. Comedy itself was good, but I can’t say the standard was even amongst all the comedians. Guess that one is a bit subjective though as everyone has a different sense of humour. Personally, not a fan of humour around sensitive subjects like race or WWII, two topics that came up a lot with several of the comedians chosen to perform, but then as far as comedy goes if you’re not offending anyone, you’re probably not doing it right! Overall, vibes were good so I wouldn’t mind checking it out again on another occasion, comedians change every week so you’re bound to get something different every time.

I had a good enough time — not great now. The whole setup was quite makeshift and out of 6 comedians, I only had genuine belly laughs from 2. The other reviewers seem to like them so maybe I’m just a grumpy old fart! Yo mama so fat when she went to the beach, she brought the tide in!

What a fun night! I don’t remember a single act that I didn’t absolutely love, AND the best part is that the acts change on weekly basis, so I could come back every week and still have a laugh! My experience with comedy shows has not been very good in here, but after last night I realised that you could actually enjoy a standup night in Dublin, who knew?

Myself and the Mister came to the Jester’s Comedy Night not really knowing what type of comedy to expect and to be honest it was a mixed bag… In a good way. We were introduced to our host Chris who was very charming and introduced us to all of the wonderful acts. We heard about the imaginary friend of Pat McDonnell, how hungover Brian O’Toole was(loved his bit about de-criminalising ecstasy), that Dianne O’Connor needs to keep better care of her belongings & that Karl O’Sullivan has a facebook page(go like it). My 2 favourite acts of the night were Donal Vaughn & Keith Fox. Both were incredibly witty in their own way and had me in stitches. Chris said the Jesters Comedy Night runs every Thursday and keeps to a strict 11pm finish so people can get their buses home, and a true man to his word he kept everything going smoothly. Would highly recommend this lighthearted night out to all.

Refreshing outing after working all day! Lovely crowd, lovely host, lovely bartender, lovely comedians. I was laughing more than most of the night. It’s a good change up than just going to the pub to go to the pub.

The location of this pub is very good and I had been there before. The place is very cozy but at this time it was very, very, very crowded. The area allocated for the comedy show is upstairs and I do believe that when paid, it is probably more comfortable. As this was a free reserved event, there were way too many people(probably about 40 or more) for the tiny space. I was at the very back in a stall and there were people sitting on the floor by the window and some brave ones were standing for the full 2 hours of the event. Nice and light comedy though. The show normally costs 7e in and lasts for 2 hours with 5 or 6 comedians. A good laugh for a weeknight.
