Irish Life Shopping Mall

Oh my GOD!!!
What is the point of this shopping mall?
Eason’s is actually now gone so this place is pretty much null and void.
It screams scary 80’s Irish recession. [maybe that’s why it’s still there?!?] Like the kind of place that was used in a scene from The Commitments or the Snapper.
The only good thing about this place is the sandwich place in the very centre of the mall. € 2.85 for a sandwich. Homemade coleslaw and proper spicy cajun chicken. Everything always fresh. Surprisingly good.
I would recommend coming here for a take away sandwich or just to have a laugh at the pure state of the rest of the place.
I am totally mortified I am the Duke of the Irish Life Shopping Mall… Someone please help me take my title from me…

dark and dingy and stuck in the olden days, what more do i need to say. i feel sorry for the people and businesses who are trying to etch out a living there. i was offered a job there once but ran a mile when i saw the place.
the toilets are like something out of a stephen king novel. they’re at the back of the empty arcade, the walls are brownish and don’t come across as a very safe place to do your business. best to hold it and avoid!
this place is only alive as it is a place to get out of the rain from and a walkthrough for people in the offices at the back.

Irish Dead Centre more like. I feel sorry for anyone working here. I had a wonder through the other day as I was waiting for records from the GRO and I could not wait to leave. Places are closed or closing. I counted 6 other people in there. It is sad and depressing all at the same time.
Shopping Mall? Shopping Maul more like.
Avoid it

I don’t know if Dublin has quite gotten the hang of the «Mall» concept.
Yes we have Liffey Valley, Dundrum and Blanchardstown… but why do narrow, sad paved alleys like Irish Life Mall persist in town?
Mary Mall, Moore St Mall, Irish Life and others are more like the run-​down indoor markets I grew up being told to avoid. And with the economy still struggling for air, places like these are having a tough time keeping shop space filled as one after another retailer bites the dust.
My suggestion to the city (since I clearly have its ear): let Dublin do what it does best-​eclectic street markets, vintage shop fronts kept cool and retro, art pop ups with fresh local creations. Leave the malls to the ‘burbs and get on with that unique buzzy city shopping experience.

This place is definitely a bit depressing. It does feel like you’ve gone back in time when you step in here. Sure even before you step inside your greeted by a sign that looks like it belongs at the front of the Max and you might see Zac Morris or AC Slater slipping inside with a gigantic mobile phone.
Quite a few of the shops inside have closed down. They did have a Santa Claus in here this Christmas though! You’ll find a sport shop, a florist and a few other random shops in here. Definitely not the place to come if you’re looking to do some heavy shopping, but maybe a place to escape the rain!

This is the shopping centre that time forgot… Walking in here feels just like 1985 when brown tiles and misery were all the rage in shopping centres… even some of the neon lights on the signs have given up and gone home… I mean neon signs? How very miami vice. But then the 80s are back in fashion and we’re in recession again… maybe it’s the time for brown tiles and misery to make a come back? Please god no!
There’s a few shops and café’s hanging on in here, mostly of the cheaper, discount variety, but at least that’s in sync with the general ambiance.
