Halal Food & Grocery — it does what it says on the tin! With a bigger frozen selection than Shop Easi three doors down, HFG seems, incredibly, to have found itself a niche in the halal-​heavy Clanbrassil Street neighbourhood. Most of the products are similar, but from different brands or focusing on different sectors. They also have a few baked goods I’ve never seen in Shop Easi. And, possibly because they reopened recently, they have loads of 2-​for-​1 specials and markdowns. Plus, there are brains in the freezer. Brains!
The guy at the tills who I talked with the first two times I was in there was really nice; a different guy has been hesitant but friendly. The butcher counter minced some of my beef order fresh when their stock came up short, which was nice. So do I think this place has a chance? Judging by the amount of business it’s had the last several times I’ve been in there, yes, I do.
And it’s the best place to go if you want two kilos of Greek yoghurt for under € 2.
