Gypsy Rose Rock N’Blues Bar

I really like this bar. It is on the dark side, and like a lot of other bars in Dublin, it has many beers available on draft. The bartender gave me a taste of a beer he recommended, and I ended up ordering it. I gave the bartender a good tip. He said, «What’s this?» and gave me back the tip, telling me it wasn’t necessary. I thought that was nice of him.
Towards the back is darker, just like I like it. Towards the front is lighter and airier because it is closer to the front window or open area.
From the states, this is my most frequently visited bar during my visit.

Probably the best place for metal we came across in Dublin. Free to get in and a great stage in the basement bar hosting a good selection of live music. The beer range is also pretty good, was one of the better places for getting a decent German beer even though we’d ran out of cash just before we arrived (it’s a flat € 5 for the tap beers).

Temple Bar es sinónimo de alegría, felicidad, música y pintas, ¡¡muchas pintas! El Gypsy Rose es, a su vez, sinónimo de Temple Bar ya que tiene ese esencia irlandesa que recorre las venas de los inmortales, pero que cuenta con un aditivo que, a gustos personales, le hace único: el Heavy Metal. Este pub mira al río Liffey de tú a tú, retándole a ver quién más líquido lleva en su interior. Con pintas, ya sea de Guinness, Bulmers o Stella Artois a 5 € (o al menos eso me cobraron dos amables camareras) durante toda la noche. Antes de las 00h, música en directo, como están obligaos los pubs de Dublín y posiblemente de todo el mundo.
Un ambiente de lo más peculiar que no hacía honor a la grandiosidad de la música. Entre forasteros, nativos de pelo corto, pelirrojos (que no pelirrojas) naturales, tatuadas y borrachos entrañables, plasman una escena irlandesa de lo más pintoresca. A decir verdad, una cuidadosa obra de arte. El local cuenta con dos plantas. La de arriba se divide en dos, una donde se encuentra el pub y otra un café para aquellos mortales de poco gusto nocturno. Esta última zona contaba con un billar que siempre era utilizado. El techo de Pub, perfectamente decorado con logos e imágenes de los grandes del Heavy Metal. La planta baja estaba marcada por los sofás repartidos por el sótano y la pista de baile qué, entiendo otro uso que no fuera del headbanging.
La música, como decía, perfecta. Heavy Metal clásico, desde Iron Maiden (como no) hasta Helloween o WASP pasando por Dio. Eso sí, la planta de abajo, por lo poco que estuve, no había más que rock clásico. Entiéndame que sería únicamente por ese día.
Si he de volver a Dublín, que tengo que hacerlo ya que es la ciudad da para mucho, de forma obligatoria apuntándome con una pistola, volveré a este pub de tan grato, y alcohólico, recuerdo tengo en mi borrosa memoria juvenil.

Go for the music! Okay, I am far from a biker/​rocker but this is still a cool spot. They have a one person act in Fridays. If you go when Dave is playing you are in for a treat. Rock music and he is brilliant. Drinks are cheap, people are decked out in all black and the ages are mixed. Just a great little spit to chill, have a pint and hear some great music. Oh, oddly the toilets are the cleanest part of the place.

I love this place! It is definitely the place to be for a few evening drinks or a good dance on a Fri/​Sat night.
As I am a rock chick at heart, this place ticks all the boxes for me, good rock music and drink at a reasonable price! There are always bands playing up until 12/12:30 which I generally avoid just because there never really my thing but the DJ comes on at like 12:30/1 and he plays rock/​metal music from classic to new. The bar sells jugs of spirits and mixers for € 12 (Really good value) The upstairs is a little more tame if you want to have a chat and the back room downstairs has a pool table and a slightly more chilled vibe but still within earshot of the amazing music. The bars do not accept laser (This annoys me as its how I like to pay) so this is the only reason this place is losing a star. Anyone that loves good rock and a little dance in a cool atmosphere I would definitely recommend here!

Pints of Ice Cold Bulmers for 4 EUR? Yes please.
And I’d never seen this type of Bulmers before, Ice Cold on draught. It is a bit of a fad, having draught taps covered in ice, but it works for the Bulmers IMO.
It was a quiet Tuesday evening when we where there, not many people around. But it was an enjoyable quiet two pints, with some great tracks being picked on the jukebox.
As you can imagine with a Rock Bar, the décor is cool and dark with skulls and even a motorbike stuck up on the wall for good measure.
The ladies loos were surprisingly nice, albeit not very rock.
With nice cider on tap at that price, I’ll be back.

Rockin’ awesome place. I have actually performed there a few times and seen some great gigs in there. The staff are great, especially Sugar Tits.

This is one of if not my favorite bars ever! I go every friday night! i can now be considered a regular. I love the staff especially Ronan’s big happy face when he sees me and my friends! Smashing! the drink is über cheap, you dont pay for mixers. Music is brilliant with live acts, blues upstairs metal/​rock downstairs, dj set ¹¹⁄₁₂ –2.30. When I say dj its old school rock. Very cool place. Oh and there is pool tables… happy days!

On the ground floor there was live music where a guy was playing classic rock tunes on his guitar. Downstairs was heavy metal which will never rock my boat.
So upstairs we stayed and as Ian said, it’s very macho. Maybe a bit too forced. I was sitting at the bar with my brother’s partner and I had my jacket on one stool waiting for another friend to join us, about four huge men went to take the stool,
«I’m sorry — I’m waiting for a friend…»
They just glared at me and did what they set out to do, completely intimidating as they knew they could break me and took the stool. Never did I feel so «square» in my life. That’s just not cool, don’t be an ass and use your size to intimidate people.
Overall fun atmosphere, interesting mix of folks that for the most part were nice bar one homophobic slur I had to diffuse but I guess by the end of the night they were won over as they gave us a lock in.
Yeah I’d go back but I might bring my trainer with me.

Rough and ready, dark and broody, mean and moody — for all these reasons, the Gypsy Rose has become my pal’s biggest love affair since she moved to Dublin. When I was over visiting a couple of weeks ago, she whisked me straight off the bus and in here for a wee drink.
The Gypsy Rose is a music venue and old rocker’s bar, complete with one of those juke boxes that has every song ever written on it. Regulars line the bar and are quick to hit up some banter with you. The crowd is a mixed bag, from younger folks to an older generation who actually got to live through a good era of rock music!
At the weekends they’ve got some club nights on the go which I’ve been assured are excellent banter. But for an otherwise quiet Monday night I met some interesting folks, listened to some good tunes and drank one of the cheapest pints in Dublin! A great place to kick back for a quiet one, but definitely has the potential to provide an interesting night out if that’s what you’re after! In my scuffy Converse, I felt very much at home.

Dropped in for a pint yesterday (Sunday) evening, only upstairs was open, but I was very impressed. The beer was € 4 which is a great price for town or anywhere for that matter. There was a good atmosphere in the place, it wasn’t packed or anything but it din’t feel empty. Music was great and at a volume perfect for conversation. Great addition to Dublin’s rock bars

Great new addition to the burgeoning rock bar scene in Dublin city. Better then Fibber Magees for two reasons 1) The clientele are a good bit older and wiser and generally more chilled out and 2) guaranteed cheesy nu-​metal sets!
So if you were one of those kids who hung around the Central Bank smoking and looking depressed (like me) then this is your natural habitat. Gave me a literal pain in my neck from nostalgically headbanging to Limp Bizkit and Metallica all night!

I only found this fantastic pub back in April but it has been my home away from home on Friday nights ever since. It helps that it is a late bar every night of the week.
It will not suit everyone but the mix of great music, great staff, cheap beer and friendly atmosphere is perfect for me.
On the ground floor you will find the main bar with a small stage at the back. There is free music every night of the week on the stage. Deko on Friday’s is a must see. You cannot find a better free gig in Dublin.
During good weather they will fold away the front windows adding extra space to the pub.
In the basement you will find the main stage. There are regular gigs at the weekends followed by a DJ set from DJ Sugartits.
And to top it all off, all drinks are € 4 before midnight and € 5 after.

I must say I am glad I finally made it down to Gypsy Rose last weekend. I have heard a lot about the place and have been meaning to get there, but never had the chance. Last weekend I made it down twice and was well impressed! A great little bar upstairs and larger area downstairs. It’s a great mix of big and small as it has a nice pub feel upstairs. The music was brilliant — they do rock/​alternative type stuff daily and on Sunday when we went they have a rock-​a-​billy night. On top of all of this, every drink was € 4. Great music and good prices! You can’t beat that sure!

Terrible place. When I was in there on the weekend there was a ridiculous amount of hyper aggressive sado males in. I got started on twice. I difused it once and ignored it once but it really was pathetic .I love pool but it only causes trouble on a weekend. I tried putting money on the table and a guy grabbed my arm and said it wasnt my turn. The same goes for the test your punch machine. Also any single males looking to pull should steer clear. Only chance would be a slender long haired rocker (5 – 1 ratio at least). Bar staff are really bad as well. Pure showy. Not good at pouring pints and very slow. And I was a cocktail barman for a couple of years. I would suggest that if you drank any more than six pints you would have a hangover

Awah man — where do I start with this place, it is bonkers!
If you know your Dublin night haunt history then if I say the Gypsy Rose is a cross between Fibber Magees circa 1993 and Bruxcelles from the same era then you’ll know what I mean.
If you don’t then strap on your grubbiest leathers, light up a ciggy and follow me to one of the coolest, grungiest, grottiest, rockiest (yes it’s a word) and generally tremendous bars in the city.
I was there a few nights ago for a wedding reception (er… interesting choice I know!) and was engulfed in a fog of loud rock (including a live band downstairs) black clothes, tattoos and cheap drinks — no matter what I ordered (be it wine, a spirit and split or pint) it cost 4 Euro — nice.
There was one shock though, totally caught me by surprise, totally out of character for the rest of the place… The toilets were immaculate… seriously, spanking new and sparkling. Damn, now I know I’m getting old, I would never have noticed that in the years where I would have actually looked the part in a place like this!
Great bar, worth a shot!

For all you fans of Fibbers, Bruxelles, Doran’s and the legendary Rock Garden of days past, hang on to your bandanas because the Gypsy Rose Rock & Blues Bar has finally opened its doors and what a pub! I attended the opening evening and saw so many familiar faces I felt like I had drank in the place for years.
The front windows part to open up the whole face of the pub and Barrels are used as tables embossed with the WInchester rifle and rose logo of the bar. On entry feast your eyes on the customised triumph mounted on the wall complimented by some lovely backing artwork. Then let your eyes wander over the artwork by graf artists and tattoo artists all over the ground floor bar. This theme continues through the other 2 rooms downstairs (which don’t smell like wee anymore like the Viper Rooms did, thank God).
Downstairs is a long chilled out room and a small venue with a pool table (which is always good to know). The live entertainment up and downstairs was top notch and the service was friendly and efficient.
All drinks are € 4 which is nice to know.
I have to disagree with Dave E regarding his complaint about the credit card machine. I also work in the trade and they are the bain of my life. I don’t think other people should have to wait a lot longer to get served because someone wants to pay for their bitter lemon with laser when there are eleventy seventy squillion ATMs scattered around the city.
But as for the Gypsy Rose, who is portrayed in all her glory on the wall of the ground floor bar, I WILL become a regular beacause I had a fantastic night.

This would have been a 5 star rating if it wasn’t for the slow service and lack of laser/​credit card facilities (the barmaids were clad in leather and some were smoking hot however :)), but it looked as if it was the servers first night to work behind any bar, so an updated review in the future might allow me to give this cool, well designed and decorated blues and rock bar the full «as good as it gets» treatment if they sort out the slowness, there are three different bars in the place, waiting so long for a beer shouldn’t happen.
The bar is located on Aston Quay (near Usit) and last night was the opening, although I was told by a member of staff there will be a big official launch night, which I really want to be a part of!
The price of a bottle of beer was € 4, and there was no cover charge, so, it wont break the bank to have a night out in this place. Gypsy Rose also offered two different bands on two different floors, and so if they keep it like this I will be back again and again, on the ground floor, there was a blues band, think Seasick Steve meets Keith Earls, and in the basement a classic rock band belting out the likes of the Beatles and Steve miller band were playing. The jukebox was also blaring out music from the velvet underground to U2 in between the live music, so the mix was good, and not as heavy as the likes of fibbers so the bar will not be dominated by a rock clientèle.
I would certainly recommend this bar and I hope they can build on the busy night they had last night, I want to see Gypsy Rose do well and I think it will leave the old viper room in its shadows
