This is a tough review to write because the service could not have been better(sit down, drink order taken and my daughter was immediately presented with paper and crayons immediately) and I really can’t blame GB for cooking the formerly fine beef to an inch of it’s life; the HSE requires most ground beef cooked to a minimum of medium — for the uninformed medium or well done ground beef is best suited for the bin. Having said all that, GB gets a pass on the burger. the fries and onion rings — yes, I am a fan of the hot oil — were good, but the wings, which were well spiced and presented in a trough(oink, oink), were not quite crispy enough and the strawberry shake was a waste. Based on the service I would go back and maybe order a rare steak.

I love a good burger and figured you can’t go wrong with a place that puts ‘Gourmet’ and ‘Burger’ together, now can you? The answer is, no you can’t. I tried the Sweet Chilli Chicken Burger– yummy! And it was a big burger as well so I was very impressed. I missed the lunchtime deal though, was a bit late for that, but I think I’ll be back and try and eat myself through most of their burger menu. The service was quick, but in fairness it wasn’t too busy when I was there so it could be different at around lunchtime. It’s a nice enough place and less gimmicky than Jo’burger.

It must be tough for Gourmet Burgers to lure in customers with Jo Burgers only a few steps away. They try with a special lunch offer: 8oz burger+drink for 9.95, which is a pretty fine deal as they do indeed serve up some gourmet burgers that are big enough to keep you stuffed until dinnertime. They also have a Kobe-beef burger on the menu(you know, the beef that comes from the happy cows that get beer with their dinner and a massage before bed). I haven’t had the pleasure of trying Gourmet’s take on the delicious meat but I have tried a Kobe burger once, in Reykjavík, and it was heavenly! The beef literally melts in your mouth. Too bad it’s so expensive. But next time I find a bunch of Euros in my pocket and have absolutely nothing useful to spend it on, I’ll grab a seat at Gourmet, alone(no way I would risk having to give my friend a bite), and feast on the juicy treat.
