Dame Tavern is the kind of old fashioned pub that feels like it has probably seen quite a bit. The atmosphere is very traditional with big comfy chairs and benches where you can sit and sip a Guinness for hours and while away the night. The beer choices didn’t go far beyond Guinness though there were a few others as well. The staff was a bit brusque and wouldn’t take credit card, but it kind of went along with the atmosphere. Its location is also great for pre or post dinner drinks as the area has many good choices and isn’t too far of a walk to some other good choices in the city center.

A great local bar feel in amongst Dame Lane area! Staff are always friendly and accommodating! If you want an authentic Irish pub feel, skip the other larger bars nearby and pop along to dame tavern! It’s a no frills place but that’s what makes it as real of an Irish bar experience. Great for catching some sport during the day whilst at night, they sometimes have live music! Cash only, so pre-load the wallet

Have never noticed this pub before, as it is overshadowed by the Stag’s Head. Cosy little pub with a very friendly bartender, the usual suspects on tap but also Galway Hooker which is only € 5.10(probably the cheapest you can find in D2). Patrons appear to be regulars who perch themselves on the bar stools, with the bartender serving up their pints(and newspapers!) even before they take off their coats. A real nice homely local pub right in town — definitely worth a visit!

Visited from California and was keen to visit as many authentic Irish pubs as possible. Was directed to the Stags Head which left me cold, very impersonal, but I happily stumbled upon the Dame Tavern directly opposite it. By far the BESTPUBINIRELAND that I visited(and I covered a lot). Family run by the Woods, dad Pat and son Graeme are complete charmers. I sat at the bar on my own and had a newspaper put in front of me then was asked what I’d like to drink. They even do runs to the bookies amd will place your bets. Amazing place for a quiet solo pint or for a group. Should be 1st on everybody’s list to visit in Dublin.

We asked a bartender at Temple Bar where he drank on his day off, and he pointed us to this place, referring to Dame Tavern as a «quintessential Irish pub.» Stopped in on a Friday afternoon and had a great time chatting with the eight or so patrons and Pat(the owner). Most of the customers were wagering on the ponies, there’s a betting shop nearby. Everyone was very nice, and one guy even took the time to explain some differences in horse wagering between the U.S. and Ireland. For example, an «exacta box» in the U.S. is an «exacta reverse forecast» in Ireland. Stopped again on Saturday afternoon and the same eight guys were sitting in the same spots. Ha! Dropped in again on Sunday night after a trip to Navan for the horse races(thanks for the tip, Pat!) and many of the same customers were there again! There was also live music and quite a few younger people. Eclectic crowd and very good music. Pat and his son run a very nice pub, of the many pubs we visited, this was my favorite.

The Dame Tavern is another Dublin landmark in a great spot clustered alongside some of the best pubs in the city. If you have never been, then it is well worth the visit. They always seem to have a good band playing when I have been, which is pretty often. I find when I am out at Stag’s Head, 3 Dame Lane, or The Mercantile I will inevitably end up meeting a few of the lads here for at least a few drinks.

The Dame Tavern has so much more to offer than its overpriced neighbour(Shebeen) and is a great little pub, one most Dubliners seem to have somehow missed. The Stags rules the roost around here, but drop in here and you’re in for a nice surprise. A wonderful pint(above and beyond the Stags), a friendly barman and a nice cosy feel complete this one. Candelit on my last two visits, it’s a great place to hide from the big bad city for a few hours. Don’t forget this one.

Although a Dubliner by birth, the night I visited(mid August) marked my first visit to The Dame Tavern, thanks for that Chris. This charming little place had a summer time outdoor pedestrianised feeling to it, even though taxis crawl by and it was clearly the end of summer, the crowd spilled out on to the road and it was all very atmospheric. So outside the Dame court was really when I went drinking. The interior is well worth a look too.

An absolutely wonderful pub! A hidden slightly treasure not uncommon for a visit or two from a certain Mr. S who tours with the well know E street band when in town. The pint is beautiful, and won’t cause the thread in your pocket to unravel. The Dame Tavern is Family run which adds a great charm to the place. Hand-on owner management through Pat means business is therefore personal, in what seems a fantastically well run manner. If your regular or not you will get pulled into the banter going on around you and you won’t complain! Decorated with old ‘oul Dublin salt of the earth patrons, the authenticity and lack or pretense in this pub is real, which makes it extremely inviting and comfortable, putting you straight at ease even if you are a Dame Tavern virgin. The live music and sessions have the place hoping on otherwise drab Sundays! The Dame so, is essential for a visit, maybe a few visits and why not the odd one there after. I can’t knock the place! If this is the Stags tail, known because of its proximity to the sometimes uneventful Stags Head, than the Dame Tavern is the stags best feature.

Dame tavern is your quintessential old-man corner pub, with an outdated décor and regulars at the bar who are there so often you start to wonder if they actually live in the place. This is all part of the charm of Dame Tavern. Being a girl myself it’s not really a place you’d take a girl, or shall I say lady, on a date, but my guy friends love to meet up here and when I’ve gone along I haven’t been disappointed. It can get a bit laddy and the crowd is on the rougher side. However, on the weekends they play some great live music, the guitarist and vocalist does anything from Christy Moore to Bob Dylan and The Band. This guy is absolutely great and he really makes the place. In fact if we couldn’t find my one friend it was nearly guaranteed that he would be sat in a booth at Dame Tavern signing along to the live music. It’s the perfect place to catch a few drinks after a Saturday spent in town or if you’re an enthusiast for what I will broadly classify as ‘folk music’. Definitely worth a look if you’re tired of going to the same old places.

I was in here the other night and it was really lovely. It was a Thursday night and the rest of town was very busy but for some reason it was quiet in here — maybe because it’s across from the more popular Stag’s Head. In any case, it’s a great bar with a big window that lets you see all the action on the street outside. Good smoking area too. I don’t know why it doesn’t get more crowded, but having said that when I was in here I was delighted for the bit of extra space.

To your average trinity Student who pretty much lives in the Stags Head, the Dame Tavern is known as the Stags Tail. It is, in mine own humble opinion, an odd wee bar with to spartan an interior to be deemed charming. However it is about as authentic as it gets for an old Dublin pub and the karaōke nights not withstanding I think its a great little bar… correction, pub — this is Ireland, we don’t do bars and when we do its only cus we’ve been watching wayyyyy too much TV. Speaking as one who watches way too much TV I class myself as an expert(the definition of which is someone who used to be a pert)
