Thanks very much Skylon Hotel and Drumcondra businesses for putting on a great Christmas event. The event started at the Christmas tree beside Fagan’s Pub with free snacks and tea and coffee. We then made our way up to the Skylon Hotel where we were handed free umbrellas(perfect for this weather, once it doesn’t rain) by local councillors. Inside the children queued up for Santa Claus and there were smiles aplenty. Then we were fed and boy was there a lot of food! We were stuffed. There was also some musicians singing lovely christmas carols. Anyway I suppose I should say something about the actual hotel. I love the opulence of the hotel from the red décor to the satin custions on the comfy sofas. And cannot fault the staff as everyone was friendly, professional and yes we’ll be back to visit again soon.

Stayed April 2015: «Under Construction Nightmare» The place was difficult to locate due to the outside being under construction, and not to mention hard to get into. Finding a parking space was not an easy feat, and we had to park in a space close to the back of the hotel in the underground garage. The hotel lobby was ginormous, decorated tastefully, and appeared to come out of a better home and gardens magazine — hotel edition. There was a lift and our room was over the parking garage overlooking the street and the nearby buildings. When you walk into the room, to the left was the bathroom. It had a counter top that held the sink, the toilet in the corner area, and a bathtub with shower glass that could swing open. On the right of the front door, was the small wardrobe. It had a mirror in the middle and on both sides a closet space to hang your jackets, and place your carry-on luggage. Our bedroom had 3 beds in it because all of their double/twin rooms were full. There were 2 twin beds and one double bed. There was also a desk and TV in the room. The Wi-Fi worked in the room, and we spent most of our time in our hotel room.

This place is near the airport and it was only a 25 min walk to get to the centre city. It near lots of resturants and they have a 24 hr front desk.

The hotel is very well located for both town and the airport. The staff were helpful, if a little out of their depth at times. The pay-as-you go internet station wasn’t worth the hassle. I put in EUR1 for 7 minutes thinking that this would be enough time to check in for my flight online. By the time 5 of those 7 minutes had passed the airline page hadn’t loaded. Happily the receptionist was very helpful and checked in for me. The air coach leaves form here at 4.20 and 5.30 in the morning(first two options) and it costs EUR3 one way. The bar and the menu on offer there didn’t look at all inviting and I’ve already given the alleged restaurant a review of its own. Well appointed rooms with clean bathrooms are a plus of this hotel, still I wouldn’t go back.

I was booked here for 5 nights by the company I was giving a course for. The first 2 nights I was in room 322; small with a noisy ventilator in the bathroom. If you stay here for 1 or 2 nights, a room like this is acceptable. Not for 5. Anyway, the first morning, it was early; 0630, the shower only produced cold water. Even after letting it run for 5 minutes. Well, I was awake :-) I complained at the reception and they promised that it would be fixed. In the afternoon I checked and the water was warm. The next morning the same. Now the water was a bit warmer, but still not hot. I asked for another room, which I got. 331; an upgrade. Good. This is a room you would expect when you need to stay that long. No complaints about this room, apart from the fact that the soap and shampoo comes from a dispenser, as in 322. Not good. Bring your own! They have fluffy towels. After a shower you look like Santa :-) Breakfast; I’m not a fan of English/Irish breakfast. Therefore I miss the options you would have with a proper continental breakfast; proper jam, normal butter. Not the artificial you get here. I like a yoghurt in the morning but they display the ‘fruit’ yogurts. However when you ask for natural, 3 times out of 5 they will have it. Atmosphere: the in house pub has it all: plenty of choice, friendly staff, cosy. Very cosy: strengthened by the older clientèle. Same cosy atmosphere in the lobby, strengthened by the velour couches. Staff: famous Irish hospitality! Conclusion. This is not a bad place to stay. Halfway the airport and the city. Don’t be too critical though and then you love to come back.

Well, it’s a nice enough place, but I had to ask the front desk several times before anyone brought up blankets and pillows for my mother-in-law, who was cold. Or did anything about the bathtub! However, it’s close to the stadium, so good for game night.
