Not as cheap as it should be but is good as cinemas go! Good popcorn/pic’n’mix selection and handy central location.

Not a bad little theatre, with 8 € tickets on a Friday night being among the cheapest I’ve seen in Europe. That being said, you can definitely tell this place is due for a renovation. It’s in good shape and was very clean, but it feels tired. Also, watching Hunger Games on screen 6 felt like sitting in someone’s slight large home theatre. It was still awesome, but shit, that was a small screen.

Went to watch a film today that was supposed to start at 2, didn’t start until 2.15 because of advertisements, not movie clips but advertisements. If they want to show that many advertisements, let them start at 1.45. This annoyed me to no end, I will never set foot in this cinema again. 07/06/2011 and the film was x men first class.

THEGATEMULTIPLEX The 6 screen Gate Multiplex at North Gate Bridge is the only such facility in Cork city centre, though there is a ring of such cinemas around the near suburbs. The North Gate Bridge facility is excellent. You have a great view in a very comfortable seat. Can’t say anything about the people factor as I didn’t really meet any. Booked my tickets via the net and picked them up from a machine in the foyer. All worked very efficiently. Most recent reason for a visit was to see a 90 minute feature film called Masquerades, yet another continental reminder that there is celluloid life apart from Hollywood. This warm character driven comedy, an Algeria/France sub-titled effort, had the audience laughing and smiling all the way through. Even as we were going out, one of the audience said he’d watch again right then and there! If you do get a chance to see it, seize it!

Well everyone loves a bit of the movies. I used to go here like twice a week when I studied in St Johns College, but one of the staff members made me feel very uncomfortable, so I dont go there no more… It is Mahon Point Cinema for me now

I love the Gate cinema — it’s always showing the latest films, and is great for a night out as the city centre is right on the doorstep. Comfortable seating and clean cinemas too, with a good snack bar with wide selection. Service is quick, so you never have to queue long which is always a bonus.
