Bru Bar and Hostel

Sweet little bar to settle in at and a perfect spot to start (and end) a good pub crawl safely for the night. Unfortunately I didn’t stay at their hostel (ended up up the road) but for a similar price and offering a discount on your pint if you’re staying the night… plus late night access to the bar after 2am.
Bru Bar kicked off our Cork Pub Crawl and introduced me to an excellent Howling Eight Degrees Gale Ale that stimulated the taste-​buds and perked up the mind to get the crawl off on a good foot.
Later made our way back here for some late night music on their small stage and played some 8-​ball in the back with very attractive Italian girls who were staying at Bru for the night.

Tiene cosas buenas, como que es limpio, está bien ubicado y el bar se queda abierto hasta las 4.30am para los residentes; pero se trata del típico hostel, sus literas, y poco más. Además las habitaciones están separadas, un tanto engorroso si se pillan varias habitaciones, y las tarjetas a veces fallan. Casi me quedo en la calle de madrugada porque dejó de funcionar mi llave y por mucho que digan que hay servicio 24horas, allí no había ni el tato.

it was extremely hot and muggy in our rooms, which were so small we could barely walk in them. The bathrooms were clean, which is good. Definitely listen to the live music they have, it’s a good time and something fun to do on any night.
The free breakfast consists of toast, cold cereal, and coffee.

We went there for a saturday night (fever yeaheah).
The hostel is a great accomodation: very good and clean facilities, great bathroom (big, clean, well-​balanced shower !), big kitchen, internet connection …
Its a very good hostel with a great price (20 € for a quad room) !
The staff is very friendly and can give you some tips about the city during the day or for your night after the bar is closed!
It isnst far from the very city center (only 5 minute walking) qnd very close to the train station.
There is no locked room for your stuff, only a space to put your bag while visiting the city. But if youre here for 2 days, you can cary most of your valuable stuff with you!!!

Not really in the center of it all, but definitely not way out in space – this hostel is darn good for the money. Security is okay, the sheets are pretty clean, the bathrooms smell like mold and/​or pee and the bar downstairs does live music, which is awesome unless you’re trying to sleep at around midnight because you have an early train… that might just be an issue for the first floor though.
the real issue is whether ot not you want to stay in Cork – and the answer is: for no more than a couple nights. It’s kind of like a dirty version of Dublin, or possibly a short (as in no skyscrapers) version of San Francisco.
Enjoy the cheap-​ish beer downstairs, walk to the everyman place theatre across the street or the comedy club down the road to catch a show, or meet up in from of the Post on Oliver Plunkett to join the pub crawl for € 10 on a Fri or Sat night.
If you don’t want to join a crawl, then Old Oak on Oliver Plunkett is always a good option :)

Wirklich eines des saubersten Hostels, in denen ich je war. Abzüge gibt’s nur für das Zimmer an der stark befahrenen Strasse (war ziemlich laut) und die wenig gemütliche Küche und Speiseraum. Für den Preis (EUR15 pro Person incl. Frühstück) kann man aber echt nicht meckern!

This place is pretty good I guess as bars go, hostels too I guess. I spent 2 nights there while I was visiting Cork. It’s quite close to the train and bus station and rooms are small but clean. The only thing I don’t like is there are no secure lockers to store your stuff so if you have3 any valuables you have to ask the staff to lock them up for you (like i ended up doing with my laptop). Kind of a pain, but I wasn’t going to leave it unattended. As the bar goes, it’s pretty nice, I was hanging out down there and this stag party came in. The groom to be was dressed up as a girl… Quite different culture here in Ireland. They also play traditional Irish music on Thursday night, and they usually get a wide variety of patrons from all over the world. Will definitely stay there again when in Cork.
