ANNIE MOORE STATUE
Fifteen year old Annie Moore may have felt lonely when she left Cobh in 1891 but now Annie, or at least her statue in the harbour town, has no shortage of company as the sculpture is one of the most visited and photographed in the country.
It is well placed just outside the heritage Centre on Cobh’s Deepwater Quay, where the cruise liners tie up.
Annie and her two brothers were, like many before them, going to the US but she was the first to be processed through New York’s Ellis Island when it was officially opened on 1^st January 1892. A similar statue stands in Ellis Island.
The kids were on their way to join their parents. Both statues, the one in New York is of Annie on her own, were sculpted by the well known Jeanne Rynhart.
