Just popped in here really quick to see what the craic was since I’d never been before. It’s very spacious, and opens up even more in the back. It’s sort of an odd mix of modern and classic, and the lights were up just a bit too much. It didn’t seem too old of a crowd but for a Friday night it was pretty quiet so I wouldn’t come here for a night out. It’s definitely more of a pop in and read the paper over a pint type of place from what I could tell, and I would recommend a few other places around Blackrock before The Breffni.

The Breffni, just like O’Donohoe’s next door, is a great traditional pub in Blackrock. The atmosphere is great, very relaxed and welcoming, there is always some banter between the barmen and the locals in here and nobody will bat an eyelid if you just sit here by yourself reading the paper with a pint in front of you. This is the kind of pub, where you come to relax and have a chat and a– really good– pint with a few friends without having to worry about posers. The chairs are comfortable and I’ve never seen the bar that busy that it would feel in any way crowded. A good place to meet up with friends or start off a night out.

The Breffni is a lovely, cosy old-man’s pub on the main street in Blackrock. Pints are pulled by veteran barmen, who are really smiley and pleasant. I had an interview to record yesterday, and they very kindly turned the music down in the lounge at the back of the pub and let us use the space. We had a good ol pot of tea which is a rarity these days — nothing worse than being charged upwards of € 2 for a cup of tea when a bit of extra hot water in a pot costs them nothing. The front bar had some football match playing, with the few regulars glued to it over their pints of Guinness(which I hear is very good here).
