Blue Orchid is basically the restaurant and bar facilities of what is known as the Great House, or Greathouse, established on the Estate of St. Peter Greathouse, a former plantation. Being located 1,000 feet above sea level on a mountain overlook off St. Peter Mountain Road, it offers magnificent views of Megan’s Bay and some 20 other islands. Everything about the place is spotlessly clean and immaculately maintained. During early afternoon hours it’s a regular stop off point for tourists and tour buses with the restaurant itself only being open in the evening. I’d say that the food is very good with the best of the chef specialties seemingly ranging more in the meat areas(prime rib Saturdays) with generous size filets and other cuts though they also have an excellent sea bass prepared with a roasted almond dilled butter as well as a very good duck breast, pan seared with a port wine reduction. You can forget the afternoons as the only offerings appear to be toothpick samples of what they claim Caribbean foods. At least I didn’t find it very inspiring with things like a tooth pick shoved through a maraschino cherry, piece of banana and pineapple. Like really, a maraschino cherry? I have no idea what might be Caribbean about a maraschino cherry. But, of course that is set out and meant for bus tourists and if they want to tell them maraschino cherries have a place in Caribbean cuisine apart from being in some cocktail with a pink umbrella, I’m not going to be the one argue with it. Though the dinner food is very good, the Blue Orchid is really about the beauty of the view, the atmosphere, the gardens, the fish pond, aviary and botanical gardens.

I save 5 stars for places that are above and beyond great food and atmosphere. I’ve been here three times now and each time the food is impeccable. We always arrive before sunset to enjoy the views of Magen’s and off towards the North. Once the sun sets, the warm cozy atmosphere makes you feel like you are dining in someone’s gorgeous home. You can relax at your table by candlelight and simply relax. There is no music to distract you and no clanging of dishes. You literally feel like you are at home. I’ve had the sea bass twice now and I can tell you it is on my top 15 list of best dishes globally. It is perfectly seasoned, it has a light crust and sautéed in butter topped with roasted almond slivers. The filet is perched atop perfect semi mashed potatoes and garnished with asparagus, salad and artichoke hearts. We started with the tuna trio and it was delicious as well and the portions were exceptional. The wilted spinach salad was fantastic and very large. If you are visiting the islands then this is a must stop! Thank you Claire for your outstanding service and for making us feel so comfortable.

Beautiful view and ambience, recessed lighting and candles on the table for a romantic setting. The wait staff was friendly and recommended the prime rib. My husband and I both ordered it, and I have to say, it wasn’t a great cut of meat. Lots of fat. The flavor wasn’t bad, but wasn’t anything that I was crazy about. We did do the dessert cheesecake, and that was delicious. There were lots of other menu options, but I wouldn’t recommend ordering prime rib if you go.

What took us so long?! We’ve lived down the hill from this restaurant for years + never went. The view is amazing, the food is great… it’s an excellent date spot. We’ve also determined that the bar is also a good spot for neighborhood mommy’s night out. Yay!

This is an amazing spot for a romantic night out on St. Thomas. Perched high on the island, it has an amazing view of Magen’s Bay and boasts a beautiful sunset! The service is delightful and the ambiance and location is serene. The décor is more old world than expected, but the food did not follow suit. My husband had the duck, which might be the best duck we have ever had. I had the fish special which was done perfectly. We shared the apple pie, but don’t recommend it. Overall, an amazing spot to change it up a bit.

I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The service, view, décor, ambiance and food are all superb. We have eaten here twice in the past week and look forward to our next experience at Blue Orchid. We arrived on Valentines Day 2015 without a reservation after a very unpleasant experience with the hostess at a near-by restaurant which resulted in our leaving. The hostess at Blue Orchid welcomed us with«Happy Valentines«and said they were fully booked but she would see what she could do to accommodate us. She was able to seat us and we had a delightful meal. On the way out she handed my wife a long stemmed red rose. What a class act! I highly recommend this restaurant.

This place was amazing! The service is top notch and the food is excellent. We started off with the tuna appetizer which was great. Then we had Ceasar Salads which was good. For entrees we had a filet mignon that you could cut with a fork. To finish it off we had a rum cake that was warm and delicious! Definitely recommend this place if wanting a nice night out. It is very small only about 11 tables in the whole restaurant so it has a real homey feel to it.

This is the food we have been looking for! Not bar food like the taxi drivers suggest.

The restaurant and grounds are absolutely beautiful. The views of Megan’s Bay are amazing from the rooftop deck. Happy hour at the bar was awesome and cheap. The drive up here was treacherous to say the least but that’s not a knock on the restaurant.

The views from this mountain location were of Megan’s Bay and the end of the island. Just beautiful! Finding is a bit tricky but keep going up! The food was good with wonderful presentation. Make reservations for this small intimate place and get there early to stroll the beautiful botanical grounds.

We spent our family Thanksgiving here over the holiday and it was great. The service was friendly, the food was very good and the vistas were equally impressive. It can be tricky to find if you’re using an iPhone so get directions ahead of time.

Opened last season and just re-opened this week. Very good food — my husband loves the ribeye, and I’m a big fan of the spinach pie. Small plates are interesting, too, if you have commitment issues and can’t select one entrée. Way up on the Northside — beautiful part of the island. Terrific service and not at all outrageously priced. Will go back.

This restaurant just opened early this year(2012) and it’s located at St. Peter Great House. There is an observation deck and you can enjoy an amazing view of Islands. The food was good – but not outstanding. Great service. Make sure to go there on the nice day to enjoy the view.
