The milk pudding is pretty good, but not impressive. I would give it 3.5 stars, but the price is just ridiculous and the overall environment is far from satisfying. The seat is small and the store is not that clean. I do understand that Hong Kong is a crowded city, but since the restaurant dared to charge that much for a milk pudding, the restaurant should provide comparable dining experience. –0.5 star for the poor environment.

The high grade is solely for the steamed milk pudding, and not much else. The milk tea here is pretty good. Back to the pudding, it’s hot and smooth. The texture is delicate and spot-on. The hint of ginger isn’t overpowering and the pudding is not too sweet. The breakfast combinations are actually more expensive than some HK-style cafes. The ham and eggs were rather cold and not worth the money in comparison. However, again, the milk tea was plenty hot and strong. Service sucked for HK as well, perhaps with the exception of the lady at the cash register. She noticed an American quarter that I had and laughed as she though quarters were strange. Hehe, because those un-round coins in HK look so normal… ;-) Other than the milk pudding, you don’t need to be here. You can get a much better breakfast experience(cleaner, nicer, better food) at, say, Café de Coral.

Woah, this was so good. Mmm, warm milk puddings. I’ve never had anything like it, and I’m not sure I ever will again. We got sweet milk and cold chocolate pudding and both were sweet and delicious. The service was fast and friendlier than other places and we had a really nice sit and eat and it was great. If you’re in the area, don’t miss it here. So good, so tasty.

Pretty delicious milk pudding. Super smooth and ever so slightly sweet. We tried the coffee one and it had a subtle coffee flavor. The star of the puddings have to be the milk. We also got a mango smoothie which was delicious. Prices are cheap of course too.

I had two main takeaways about this place: 1) I loved it. 2) I preferred it to Australia Milk Company. re: #1: We ordered a few things at my table: an egg & cheese sandwich, eggs & toast, a banana milk, ginger steamed-milk custard, and coffee steamed-milk custard. As the name of the place would suggest, the focus was on the dairy: everything was excellent. The milk was just like a banana milkshake, just not frozen. And the custard was so good that if Hong Kong as a city offered nothing else but this, it would still be a worthwhile tourist destination. The ginger flavor was excellent but the coffee, for me, was one of the best things I ate in a week-long visit. re: #2: I mention this because I read a lot of notes and reviews comparing the two, and it seems like Australia Milk Company is more famous and its custards considered better. I disagree. Yee Shun has multiple locations and seems less popular, so it’s not crushed by traffic. You don’t have to wait to get in, and once in you aren’t stressed out by manic waiters and maitres d’, as you might be in Australia Milk Co. Also, Yee Shun’s menu is more expansive: their custards come in several more flavors. Australia has plain milk and egg-almond(both excellent). Yee Shun has those, plus ginger, coffee, and a few others. I didn’t explore the menu very far beyond the dairy. Yee Shun, like other HK-style cafes, offers a small menu of breakfast and quirky lunch foods. The lunch foods consist of instant noodles and soups, and SPAM or «luncheon meats» to top them. If you’re a tourist, you might want to try these just to say you did. That’s fine. Just do not skip the custards.

It’s places like Yee Shun Milk Company that have me yearning to visit Hong Kong again and again. It’s uniquely local, reliably delicious, unpretentious, and inexpensive. Their Steamed Milk Custard is worth shouting out. It’s so silky, smooth, and delicate. The flavor is of barely-sweet steamed milk and eggs. It makes for an amazing dessert or anytime-of-the-day snack. The recipe sounds so simple– it’s made with only 3 ingredients(milk, egg whites, and sugar), but in practice it’s a technical, precise process.(Believe me, I’ve had my share of watery, lumpy, and separated milk custards.) It is a wonder how they’ve perfected the flavor and texture… but luckily, I don’t have to think about it. All I have to do is plan my next visit to Hong Kong!

Supposedly this is the original«milk company.» They are known for their milk pudding. Delicious and simple. There are a few scattered around HK, but we tried this and it was good. Although I do think the Australian Milk Company is slightly better.

There is always a first time for everything. My first time being served instead coffee is here! Unforgivable and as guilty as anything, if there is something you don’t want to sell, just take it off the menu! I guess I have to be responsible somewhat on my part, I shouldn’t have gone for breakfast in this place. Lesson learnt. And no offense to those that love this place, I am sure they are still good at their sweet steamed milk puddings and the like.

A standard for foodies in Hong Kong. There’s a few locations around the city, but try the milk pudding. Very subtle sweetness and it was delicious!
